Nordmarks OdalfÀlt (Nordmarksbergs gruvor), Filipstads kommun, VÀrmlands lÀn, Sverige

Note: This area is not to be confused with the Nordmark mining district (Nordmark malmtrakt in Swedish).

It is not known when mining started in the Nordmark Odal Field; perhaps as early as medieval. Documentation exists from the early 17th century; Stor- and Gröngruvan are the oldest mines; Nygruvan is claimed to be discovered in the year 1665, and ores in the southern part were more or less depleted around 1800. Even though the ores in the northern end were known from ~1650, they were poor and not mined until much later, both gaining in size and quality.

The mines in this mining district were (listed roughly from south to north): Nya SnĂ€ttan, Kistgruvan, Storgruvan, Zegolfgruvan, Tak- and Pelargruvan, Köpmannagruvan, Kittelgruvan*, Finngruvan, Gröngruvan, Butenholm, Bottengruvan, Nygruvan, Trinneborg (Gamla), Trinneborg (Lilla), Brattforsgruvan*, Grundsjögruvan (sometimes referred to as Grundsjögruvan and sometimes as Bjelkesgruvan), SkĂ€rpet, Östra Mossgruvan*, Mossgruvan*, and Kogruvan*.
Mines with an asterisk (*) after the name are the most interesting ones mineralogically.
Several of these mines were interconnected underground during the years of mining.
