The Michael vein is at least 1.3 km long and up to 2 m wide (average of 80 cm). The Michael Mine worked the southern part of the same vein that was worked by the Silbereckle mine.
Note: The Michael adit is inaccessible, and the dump has been landscaped.
Mining has taken place in Reichenbach since at least 1468. Lead ore was searched for there. Although profits were not great, mining continued. In 1816, it was reported that there was rich ore to be found, but the profit was only enough to support the local miners. In 1827, it was reported that the wages were higher than the yield and that the pits that were still being mined in 1823 were backfilled. Around 1900, the manufacturer Ringwald from Emmendingen had the deep tunnel, today's Michaelstollen, excavated. In 1911, the Harmersbach mineral dealer C. Goldbach found uranium minerals in the dump. The tunnel was sealed up. In 1937-1938, the tunnel was reopened to extract ores for the war effort. The tunnel was reopened one last time in 1956-1957 by the Geologischen Landesamt Baden-Württemberg ("Baden-Württemberg State Geological Office") and examined for uranium. However, the average uranium content of less than 0.5% is not worth excavating.
In addition to lead and uranium ore, tsumcorite, arseniosiderite, austinite, kasolite and jordanite were found.
