MAYEN Silbersand old zinc mine Vieille Montagne 1852-1914.

Ancient mine, working a lead- and zinc-bearing siderite-quartz vein.
Located 500 m north of Bürresheim castle and about 4 km NW of Mayen.

Vieille Montagne bought the Silbersand mine on December 4, 1852 and shut it down on June 1, 1914.
After the second war, from 1950 to 1953 some exploration was done and dump material was recuperated on Silbersand by the Bendisberg mine.
