Initially, Musonoi is the name of a river that flowed very near the first deposit. On the map, one can see it is still flowing there.
Cu-Co-U deposit.
Known for its rare assemblage of uranyl selenites, as well as palladium minerals.
The workings consist of several open cuts, the oldest of which, Musonoi Principal, was started during the 1940s.
A second cut (Musonoi Extension) was begun during the 1950s, and a third cut (Musonoi Extension 2) during the 1970s.
The pits, eventually combined, are now connected to the Kamoto group of mines.
Located 2 km NW of Kolwezi. The Mindat icon marks the Musonoi Principal mine; the extensions are located to the east of the main deposit (see sublocalities).
Dolomitic inferior formation of the Roan system, Katanga group (Precambrian IV), deeply affected by folds and thrust nappes.
Two orebodies (about 10 meters) are known; uranium mineralization is located in the faulted inferior orebody.
There used to be a dump, especially for uranium minerals, named "Remblay 269" (in some other publications referred to as "Dump 500"), where uranium minerals from other localities were dumped. It was here that the minerals from Kamoto East were recovered, as well as the sklodowskite from Kamoto. As this dump served various mines, some minerals were erroneously reported as coming from Musonoi. The dump was sent to the Kolwezi concentrator in 1992-1993 for processing. The Mineralogical Record article cites the date of 1987.
