Hedley is an unincorporated community near the mouth of Hedley Creek in the Similkameen region of southern British Columbia. The former mining town, on BC Highway 3, is by road about 74 kilometres (ca. 46 mi) southwest of Penticton and 38 kilometres (ca. 24 mi) southeast of Princeton.
Gold mines and occurrences in veins and skarns. Most of the gold deposits are low in total sulphur. The Hedley area gold-bearing skarns are considered the world's largest of their type. A weathered horizon existed at the top of the Nickle Plate Mine, but it was excavated for its enriched gold content before being mineralogically examined.
Between Hedley and Olalla are a series of small telluride-bearing quartz vein deposits, including the Hedley Monarch Mine and the Sweetner Vein. These have a suite of altaite-hessite-petzite telluride aggregates, plus minor unidentified secondary phases. The mines operated in the 1930-1940's before being abandoned. The literature on these deposits often lists "tellurides" as the ore, with very little mineral species identification.
