Iron gossan in a volcano-sedimentary formation. These volcano-sedimentary rocks contain a lot of pyrite in stratiform deposits or in big veins. This is an iron ore mine used since the Gallic era and mainly in the XIXth century to provide ore for the Le Creusot iron making plant. The mining was stopped when the pyrite zone was reached. Some few concentrations in Pb, Zn, Cu, As, Bi have been identified by a geochemical BRGM campaign in the 1970s.

Description: This is the second world occurence of this rare mineral. The first find was on a specimen from Burundy that only yielded 3 samples. The discovery of the French material was made by Claude Gourault & William Peraud, and so far they show the best crystals ever found. The analysis of the first French samples was done by Stuart Mills (Senior Curator of Geosciences at Museum Victoria in Melbourne, Australia).
