Uranium mine 12 km west from Jaduguda.
The Narwapahar U deposit is a major one in the SSZ and contains two U-lodes, 30 m apart, with an average thickness of 5 and 2.5 m. In the east-central part of the deposit, a few NE-SW trending oblique faults have dislocated the mineralisation. The U-deposits in the Turamdih–Nandup sector in the schistose rocks of the Lower Proterozoic Dhalbhum Formation constitute the large low-grade U-resources in the SSZ. The substantial quantity of by-products – copper and magnetite – occurring in this sector is an added advantage.
The mine commenced operations in 1995.
