Can be approached safely from Staithes heading westwards on a retreating tide only.
Once there you will have only about an hour.

Warning: this is an exceptionally dangerous stretch of the coast due to the tides!

Within the high cliffs at this location, a large part of the Jurassic sequence can be seen, starting off with the Lias at beach level. Above the Lias, there is a hard blocky sandstone with which within there are numerous mineral-rich carbonaceous "Neptunian" style pipes.
These unusual pipes are rich in zinc with much crystalline sphalerite (together with lesser amounts of other Zn-bearing species such as zincite, hydrozincite and smithsonite).

Other minerals found in these pipes include calcite, siderite, baryte, dolomite and others yet to be identified.

Similar pipes may also be occasionally seen at other parts of the Yorkshire coastline.
