Hochstein (Hohestein; Forstberg), Ettringen, Mayen, Eifel, Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutschland
"Approximately 1 km north of Ettringen. Basaltic tuff and slag cone. Lava from this cone flowed as far as Thür. On the northeastern side of the mountain, there are abandoned lava quarries; there are caves in the slags in the upper parts of the mountain. According to the saga, Genoveva hid here with her son Schmerzenreich when she was cast out of the ancestral castle.
East of the road Ettringen-Bell black lapilli tuffs crop out at the southern foot of the mountain; large plates of biotite can be found here, among other species. In quarries across the street, these basalt tuffs form layers together with light-coloured selbergite (phonolite) tuffs which probably originate from the tuff areas in the north (Roderhöfe, Bell, Rieden)."
