Best AWS Cloud Practitioner Books for the CLF-C02 Exam

Most Cloud Practitioner books on sale today were written against a service list AWS has since rewritten. The certification is still CLF-C02, the four domains and their weights have not moved since September 2023, and AWS has not announced a successor. The in-scope service list in the live exam guide is a different story: Cloud9, CodeCommit, Snow Family and Kendra are gone, and Amazon Q, Transit Gateway and PrivateLink are in.

So the publication date matters more here than on most certification shelves, and a 2026 printing can still carry 2023 content. We checked every edition, price band and seller on Amazon US on October 21, 2026, and compared each table of contents against the current CLF-C02 exam guide. If you’re comparing AWS exams rather than books for this one, our exam-by-exam AWS book guide covers the whole ladder.

CLF-C02 kept its code while the service list changed

The CLF-C02 page still lists 65 questions in 90 minutes for a $100 fee. The exam guide adds that 50 are scored and 15 are unscored and unmarked. You need 700 on a 100 to 1,000 scale, and scoring is compensatory, so a weak domain can be offset by a strong one. The domain weights are the ones every book on this list was built around:

  • Cloud Concepts: 24%.
  • Security and Compliance: 30%.
  • Cloud Technology and Services: 34%.
  • Billing, Pricing, and Support: 12%.

The change is in the in-scope services list. We diffed the 2023 exam guide PDF that most of these books follow against the live HTML guide, and the swap looks like this:

ChangeServices
Notable removalsCloud9, CodeCommit, CodeStar, CodeDeploy, CloudShell, Snow Family, Kendra, MSK, MemoryDB, Network Firewall, AppSync, Audit Manager, Local Zones, Wavelength
AddedAmazon Q, Transit Gateway, PrivateLink, Client VPN, Site-to-Site VPN, DocumentDB, ElastiCache, Service Quotas, Migration Evaluator
RenamedSageMaker to SageMaker AI, QuickSight to Quick Sight, WorkSpaces Web to WorkSpaces Secure Browser

Archived copies of the page show AppSync, Audit Manager, Snow Family and Kendra were still listed on June 29, 2026, so that part of the change is recent. A 2023 book still covers every domain, but you’ll spend some pages on services that are no longer tested and will not find Amazon Q at all.

1. AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Study Guide, 2nd Edition (Sybex)

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Study Guide CLF-C02 2nd Edition by Ben Piper and David Clinton book cover
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Study Guide, 2nd Edition by Ben Piper and David Clinton. Image: Sybex.

Ben Piper and David Clinton’s guide was the best seller of the books compared here, and the online bank is the reason. You get 500 practice questions, 100 electronic flashcards, a glossary and an assessment test to show where you’re weak before you start, with one year of online access after activation. Its 12 chapters run from the cloud and your AWS account through compute, storage, databases and networking, to automation and common use cases.

Its December 2023 date means it follows the 2023 service list, so it still teaches Snow Family. It also covers OpsWorks, which AWS shut down for all customers on May 26, 2024, and its contents have no Cloud Adoption Framework heading, which task 1.3 asks about. Pair it with the free exam guide and you’ll spot the dropped services quickly.

  • Buy it if: you want the biggest question bank for the money.
  • Skip it if: you want 2026 service names, or a book sold by Amazon itself.

2. AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner CLF-C02 Cert Guide, 2nd Edition (Pearson)

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner CLF-C02 Cert Guide 2nd Edition by Anthony Sequeira book cover
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner CLF-C02 Cert Guide, 2nd Edition by Anthony J. Sequeira. Image: Pearson IT Certification.

Anthony Sequeira’s Cert Guide is the only pick whose structure maps one to one onto the CLF-C02 domains. Parts I to IV are Domains 1 to 4, so when a practice test shows you’re weak on billing, you reread Part IV and nothing else. InformIT lists the Pearson Test Prep software, a flash card app and a short quiz at the start of each chapter.

It covers the Cloud Adoption Framework and the Well-Architected pillars in Part I, which fills the gap in the Sybex contents. The text dates from July 2024 and had only five Amazon reviews when we checked, so there is less reader feedback to lean on.

  • Buy it if: you study best by domain and want a test engine with the book.
  • Skip it if: you want the newest text on the shelf.

3. AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) Certification Guide, 2nd Edition (Packt)

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner CLF-C02 Certification Guide Second Edition by Rajesh Daswani book cover
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) Certification Guide, Second Edition by Rajesh Daswani. Image: Packt.

Rajesh Daswani’s second edition came out on August 14, 2026, which makes it the newest guide from a major publisher. It uses the new names such as SageMaker AI and Amazon Q, covers the revised Free Plan credits, and ends each chapter with an online quiz. A fictional company runs through the book, so the services show up in a business context rather than as a list.

Its contents still teach Snow Family, CodeCommit, CodeDeploy, Local Zones and Wavelength, though, so newer does not mean trimmed to the current list. At 598 pages it also goes deeper than CLF-C02 needs, especially on VPC design, load balancing and Route 53 routing policies. That depth helps if Solutions Architect Associate is next, but it is a lot of reading for a foundational exam. We couldn’t confirm how many full practice exams it includes, because the Packt site blocked our checks.

  • Buy it if: you want the newest text and plan to continue to Associate.
  • Skip it if: you want a short read.

4. AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Practice Tests (Neal Davis)

Neal Davis runs Digital Cloud Training, and this book is six practice exams of 65 questions each, 390 in all, with explanations. The purchase also unlocks his online exam simulator. With 1,103 Amazon reviews, it’s the most reviewed CLF-C02 title in this list.

It is self-published, and the Amazon listing still carries its 2020 date even though the cover and description say the content is updated for 2026 and CLF-C02. Some of those reviews were written about the earlier CLF-C01 version. Use it after a full guide, not instead of one.

  • Buy it if: you want timed, exam-length practice on paper.
  • Skip it if: you only trust publisher-reviewed question banks.

5. AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) Study Guide (O’Reilly)

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner CLF-C02 Study Guide by Tom Taulli book cover
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) Study Guide by Tom Taulli. Image: O’Reilly Media.

Tom Taulli’s guide is the shortest full study guide here at 251 pages, published in February 2026. Chapters 2 to 15 each end with a quiz, and the book closes with a crash course per domain and one practice exam. Its developer tools chapter already follows the trimmed list of CodeBuild, CodePipeline and X-Ray, and it uses the SageMaker AI name.

Kendra, Snow Family and AppSync are still in its chapters, and all three left the in-scope list after June 2026. It is also the most expensive pick at about $50 to $60 and does not advertise an online test bank, so most readers will want the Davis practice tests beside it.

  • Buy it if: you want a current, compact text with a domain-by-domain recap.
  • Skip it if: price matters more than freshness.

6. The Illustrated AWS Cloud (Wiley)

The Illustrated AWS Cloud by Jen Looper and Denise Yu book cover

Jen Looper, who led academic advocacy at AWS, and Denise Yu wrote this as an illustrated walk through the same four areas CLF-C02 covers: cloud concepts, security, technology, and billing. It is 192 pages and reads in a weekend. AWS describes the certification as suitable for candidates without an IT background, and this is the book for them.

Treat it as a primer rather than an exam guide. There are no practice questions, so pair it with the Davis tests or the Sybex bank once the concepts make sense.

  • Buy it if: you work in sales, finance or project management around AWS.
  • Skip it if: you need practice questions.

7. AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Training Notes (Neal Davis)

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Training Notes by Neal Davis book cover

The Training Notes are cheat sheets: 192 pages of tables, diagrams and short quizzes that compress CLF-C02 into something you can reread in the last week. It is the cheapest pick, and its cover says it is updated for 2026 with an online practice exam included. Like the practice tests, it is self-published and still listed under a 2020 date.

  • Buy it if: you want a final review sheet to pair with pick 4.
  • Skip it if: you already own a full study guide with flashcards.

The first Sybex edition is still on sale

The Cloud Practitioner study guide with the most Amazon reviews is the first Sybex edition, with about 1,120 reviews against 174 for the second. It was written for CLF-C01, which AWS retired on September 18, 2023. The McGraw Hill All-in-One guide has the same problem: its only edition is for CLF-C01.

Check for “CLF-C02” on the cover and a publication date after mid-2023 before you buy. CLF-C02 moved the weights and added a migration task that covers the Cloud Adoption Framework, so a C01 book leaves gaps.

Who should skip Cloud Practitioner

If you write code or run servers, you can go straight to Solutions Architect Associate. Our guide to Solutions Architect Associate books picks up there, and the SAA exam overview explains the format. Cloud Practitioner still makes sense if your role is commercial or managerial, or if your employer asks for it.

For the billing domain, our breakdown of AWS costs with real numbers is good practice reading. If you’d rather get hands-on first, set up the AWS CLI and create a few IAM users and groups. And if AI is where you’re headed, the other foundational exam has its own AI Practitioner book list.
