ORF will broadcast 52 matches from the FIFA World Cup 2026 live in Austria across its free-to-air TV channels and the ORF ON streaming app, including the final and key Austria fixtures, with rights shared alongside ServusTV.
ORF has secured broadcast rights in Austria to UEFA Euro 2028 thanks to a sublicensing deal with ServusTV, the official European Championship rights holder in the country. Under this arrangement, the national public broadcaster will air nearly half of the tournament’s fixtures. As a result, fans in Belgium can watch 25 out of the 51 Euro 2028 games live on ORF, including four out of eight round of 16 matches, two out of four quarter-finals, and one of the two semi-final fixtures.
Public-service broadcaster ORF has secured a sub-licensing deal with Canal Plus to cover highlights from the UEFA Champions League until 2027. The free-to-air network's carefully curated highlights show, “More Football – The Champions League Highlights”, takes place on Thursdays and features talking points from all Champions League games.
All of the Austrian national football team’s UEFA Nations League matches are shown live on ORF in Austria, the country’s free-to-air broadcaster, until the end of the 2026-27 season. All matches featuring Austria can be watched live on ORF1 on television or the platform’s online and mobile streaming service, ORF ON.
Fans in Austria can watch select Austrian Bundesliga matches live for free on ORF for the 2026 to 2031 cycle, with the national public broadcaster extending free-to-air rights to the Austrian top-flight league in a five-year deal starting from 2026-27 up to, and including, the 2030-31 season. Under this rights deal, ORF broadcasts four live matches per season, comprising two first-choice and two second-choice fixtures, similar to the previous 2022-23 to 2025-26 cycle.
Fans in Austria can watch all games from the Austrian Cup, also known as the ÖFB Cup, on ORF after the public service broadcaster secured a multi-platform domestic rights deal. This agreement, reached with the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) in March 2026, runs until 2030 and covers ORF’s free-to-air, radio, and online channels.
ORF holds the rights to the Women's Champions League in Austria, thanks to a deal struck by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). As part of the agreement, at least one game per game week shown on ORF, on top of any matches featuring Austrian teams. All matches shown on ORF are free-to-air and this will remain the case until the end of the 2029-30 season, when the current deal expires.

About

ORF 1 history, coverage, features

ORF1 is a free-to-air linear television channel available in Austria, Italy and Switzerland.

The channel was launched in Austria back in 195, when it became the first television channel available in the country. At that point, it was called ORF Fersenehen, and it has also previously been called FS 1 and ORF eins.

The general programming on ORF1 has evolved thanks to the creation of sister channels. At present, the programming is centred around movies, TV series and sports.

Several major sporting events have been broadcast live on ORF1 in years gone by, including the Formula 1 World Championship, the FIFA World Cup and the Austrian Bundesliga.

In recent years, the channel has also held the broadcast rights to show live coverage of football matches featuring the Austrian national football team, including Nations League matches and World Cup qualifiers.

All football match coverage on ORF1 comes with German-language commentary and studio analysis. Big names in Austrian football, including Herbert Prohaska, frequently appear on the channel to provide said analysis.

ORF1 can be found on channel one on linear TV in Austria. Alternatively, football fans can stream the channel through ORF ON. This streaming platform is available online via a web browser, and also through an app, which can be downloaded for free onto iOS and Android devices.
