Type Occurrence of Guite
General Appearance of Type Material:
Granular agglomerate, 50 to 500 μm in size.
Place of Conservation of Type Material:
Type material is deposited in the mineralogical collections of the Geological Museum of China, 16 Yangrou Hutong, Xisi, Beijing 100031, People’s Republic of China, catalogue number M13711.
Geological Setting of Type Material:
In the Proterozoic Roan Formation, composed of red and grey–green sandstone and mudstone, dolostone and dolomitic sandstone, and dolomitic siltstone and mudstone. Guite is thought to be a supergene cobalt oxide formed from the precipitation of a cobalt-bearing solution at weakly alkaline and oxidising conditions.
