Formula:
NaLi2(Fe2+2Al2Li)Si8O22(OH)2
The pedrizite group minerals are lithium amphiboles defined with:
A(Na+K+2Ca) > 0.5 apfu and
CLi > 0.5 apfu

Ferro-pedrizite is defined with
A position: Na dominant
C2+ position: Fe dominant
C3+ position: Al dominant
W position: (OH)dominant
Colour:
Dark grey-blue to violet-blue
Lustre:
Vitreous
Hardness:
6
Specific Gravity:
3.13 - 3.16
Crystal System:
Monoclinic
Name:
The name ferropedrizite has been used for a hypotethical end member amphibole mineral with the formula Li2(LiFe2+2Fe3+Al)Si8O22(OH)2. Ferro-pedrizite has been redefined to the current definition in the 2012 amphibole nomenclature. Formally approved in 2014 (IMA 2014-037) from Sangilen Upland, Sutlug Valley, Targi River Basin, Tuva Republic, Eastern Siberian Region, Russia (50º00’20’’N, 96º37’40’’E)
The element combination is quite unique, shared with 'ferro-leakeite' only.

Optical Data of Ferro-pedriziteHide

Type:
Biaxial (-)
RI values:
nα = 1.614(3) nβ = 1.638(3) nγ = 1.653(3)
2V:
Measured: 75° (5), Calculated: 76°
Max. Birefringence:
δ = 0.039
Based on recorded range of RI values above.

Interference Colours:
The colours simulate birefringence patterns seen in thin section under crossed polars. They do not take into account mineral colouration or opacity.

Michel-Levy Bar The default colours simulate the birefringence range for a 30 µm thin-section thickness. Adjust the slider to simulate a different thickness.

Grain Simulation You can rotate the grain simulation to show how this range might look as you rotated a sample under crossed polars. Each grain retains its interference colour (retardation) while its brightness falls to black at extinction and reaches a maximum between extinction positions.

Surface Relief:
Moderate
Dispersion:
Weak, r < v.
Optical Extinction:
Y = b; Z Λ c = 3–4°; X Λ a ≈ 16°. Positive elongation is
observed for the grains parallel to the planes {010} and
(YZ).
Pleochroism:
Weak
Comments:
X = colourless, Y = Z = pale lilac-grey.
Comments:
Absorption: Y ≈ Z > X.
