Quarry opened in the Monte Ficoreto scoria cone. The name "bruciore" given to the quarry is a local term to indicate a pyroclastic material dark in colour.
A system of subvertical whitish veins cutting the reddish-brown to purplish scoriae was discovered and studied at the beginning of the 1970s (Cozzupoli et al., 1976; Masi & Turi, 1976). These veins consists of an incoherent association of calcite, fluorite, and apatite accompanied by small amounts of scoriaceous materials, and opaque minerals (mainly maghemite). The calcite çrystals are the most abundant component in the veins and appear as hexagonal tablets attaining a maximum diameter of 0.2 mm. Apatite is a carbonate-rich hydroxylapatite in composition and occurs as small prismatic or needle-like up to 0.02 x 1.00 mm in size. Fluorite has been observed only in an extremely dispersed form and represents a very minor component in this mineralisation.
Thin crusts of secondary vanadinite have been observed on the surfaces of small fissures and cracks within the mineralised veins.
The veins have been observed only in the Pliocene scoria cone of the Monte Ficoreto volcanic vent and are not present in the overlying layers belonging to the "Tufi Stratificati Varicolori de' La Storta" and "Tufo Giallo di Sacrofano" ignimbrites.
