Krasnaya Shapochka (i.e. Little Red Riding Hood) mine exploits the homonymous bauxite deposit in Devonian carbonate rocks. This bauxite is of the monohydrated type and occurs as a reddish-brown, dense, earthy rock that is 60-80 percent fine-grained diaspore; böhmite is only a minor constituent.

This mine is famous for the find in 1983, at a depth of 700 m below the surface in limestones of Lower Devonian age, of a large karst cavity lined with mostly red-brown, large, single and twinned crystals of calcite.
