SEDEX-type Pb-Zn orebodies hosted in black shales. A sandstone-hosted stockwork copper orebody is located below.
The shale-hosted Castellanos Zn-Pb-Ba deposit is about 700 m long, 4.6 to 76 m thick, and extends downdip to a maximum of 300 m. It trends northeast parallel to the enclosing country rocks and dips about 50 ø northwest. It is cut by a number of transverse faults striking northwest and dipping steeply southwest. Crosscutting veinlets and stringers of chalcopyrite-quartz-carbonate uderlie the stratiform Zn-Pb ores near the northeast end of the deposit. The attitude of the copper stringer zone is parallel to subparallel to the transverse faults. Reserves are estimated at about 12,000,000 t grading 2.4 percent Zn, 3.2 percent Pb, 43 g/t Ag, and 7.9 percent Ba.
