Type:
Köppen climate type:
Pegmatite mined for beryl.
From Gallagher and Atkin (1966):
The main Mungenyi pegmatite is about 70 ft wide and 200 ft long, and is composed of a core of massive perthitic feldspar (with minor quartz and muscovite) surrounded by decomposed albite with small amounts of quartz, perthitic feldspar, muscovite and beryl. The beryl occurs mainly near the margins of the core, forming greenish-coloured crystals up to 10 cm across. Aggregates of plumose muscovite up to 4 ft in length are conspicuous in the beryl-bearing unit.
