Steinbruch am Kohnstein, Niedersachswerfen, Harztor, Landkreis Nordhausen, Thรผringen, Deutschland

A large, presently (2008) inactive anhydrite quarry, owned by the 'Harzer Anhydrit-Werke' which is part of the Wildgruber Group.

Located near Niedersachswerfen in the southeastern Harz mountains, 6 km NNW of Nordhausen and 3 km SW of Ilfeld.

Known for the occurrence of several rare borates.

Gypsum mining created tunnels in the nearby Kohnstein hill that were later used as a fuel/chemical depot and for Nazi Germany factories, including the Mittelwerk V-2 rocket factory that used Mittelbau-Dora slave labour.
