(in Inglis) WikiBrounie draft - thoughts?

[edit soorce]

Hey folks, I've been drafting this page to be a new tab on WikiProject The Big Wiki Rewrite, specifically to be a place and a thing that we can direct those to who want to help with the Wiki, but either don't speak Scots or who aren't confident in their written Scots. I've had some comments from @CiphriusKane but would really appreciate any more feedback or suggestions before I add it.

Idea would be that if folks land on the Wiki with good intentions, that we can direct those good intentions to the best place. Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 09:58, 20 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

(& also that I can promote on the WMUK Scotland mailing list, and keep as a regular task when folks are looking for things to edit.) Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 10:35, 20 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I think this page is very helpful, particularly the links to unreferenced articles and articles using archive today. Perhaps it could be added regarding archive today that editors should replace it with internet archive if possible and if not then just remove it if the original link is still dead, regards Atlantic306 (tauk) 18:23, 21 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Brilliant - yes, will add this. Thank you! Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 08:59, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Just found a problem with the list of archive today links which is it only lists one link for each page when there can be multiple links on a page such as Mexican Drog War, Atlantic306 (tauk) 22:57, 23 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
A believe Mexican Drog War wis ae exception as there wis summat wrang wi the references, bit it is listin multiple airtins per airticle e.g. Daraa Destrict. A'v optit ti nuke Mexican Drog War as nae bein wirth the time ti fix, better ti stairt ower in aat case CiphriusKane (tauk) 03:45, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Grand, thanks! Can add something to the instructions too to get folks to check whether there are multiple refs on the same article, just in case there are others. :) Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 09:00, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@CiphriusKane @Atlantic306 ok, added. One thing to note - you'll see that I've said "set URL status to dead" - I'm pretty sure that that should be "deid", but "dead" is what's in the template. Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 09:09, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Those are very helpful changes and I agree about the Mexican Drog War as that would have taken hours to fix, imv Atlantic306 (tauk) 00:16, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Grand, thanks :) Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 11:28, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
@CiphriusKane @Atlantic306 Ok, that's now live Wikipedia:Wikiproject The Big Wiki Rewrite/WikiBrounies on the project page - please feel free to point folks in that direction if it's helpful in your general admin / extended rights user duties :) Thanks so much for the suggestions and feedback! Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 11:30, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Somebody should share this in the Scots Language Forum group on Facebook. That would give this project the widest attention. Gallovidisk (tauk) 09:46, 26 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks @Gallovidisk, good suggestion! Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 10:00, 26 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I’m Danny from Wikimedia Deutschland’s Wikidata For Wikimedia Projects team.
We have been investigating and examining how Wikidata’s use in the Special:RecentChanges and Special:Watchlist pages can be made to be more useful, or less ‘noisy’ (fewer edits that have little value to the reader).

We are currently exploring to make a change in the volume and the type of Wikidata edits that appear in these pages, and we need your feedback to help us ensure this is a positive change for the Wikis and won’t disrupt your workflows.
Language links are also known as sitelinks or interlanguage links and describe when a Wikidata item is connected to a Wiki, adding it to the language dropdown tool for other connected Wikis.

A variety of "Language Link" edits as seen in the Recent Changes feed

The request for feedback is whether you support the removal of these language link edits from the Recent Changes and Watchlist feed, or would you oppose such a change and if so, why? Please share you thoughts on the dedicated metawiki Talk page.

Further information about this change: m:Wikidata_For_Wikimedia_Projects/Hide_Language_Link_edits

Thank you for any participation or feedback you give, -- User:Danny Benjafield (WMDE) 15:26, 21 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

(Apologies for cross-posting in English, translating it will help spread the message)

Earlier last month, all Wikis were contacted for feedback on our proposal to remove language link changes, this change has already been deployed to Wikisource, Wikibooks, Wikivoyage, Wikiquote, Wikiversity and Wiktionary.

The same change is now being rolled out globally to all Wikipedias on October 13, 07:00 UTC. Editors will no longer see notifications after this time on their Recent Changes and Watchlist when a link to another language version of a page is added, removed, or changed in its Wikidata item (it does not affect language link notifications to the home wiki). There will then be a two-week monitoring period to observe if a reduction of high-volume but low-value notifications takes place, or if higher-value changes become easier to identify. Editors who rely on these notifications should be aware of the change and can share feedback or concerns on the Wikidata For Wikimedia Projects talk page.
Wikidata's own Recent Changes page is not affected as it serves as the repository for these changes.

Please reach out if you have any questions, or if your wiki would like to opt-out, thank you! -- Danny Benjafield (WMDE) (talk) sent via MediaWiki message delivery (tauk) 09:29, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
