About NaquiteHide

Formula:
FeSi
Colour:
Steel grey, Tin white
Lustre:
Metallic
Hardness:
6½
Specific Gravity:
6.128 (Calculated)
Crystal System:
Isometric
Name:
Originally called ‘fersilicite’ (after its chemical composition), the species and new name have now been approved by the CNMNC (IMA 2010–010).

The name naquite is for Naqu (Nagchu) Prefecture, Tibet, near the type locality.
One of many natural Fe-Si phases; beside the approved species (listed below) you may want to compare Unnamed (Fe silicide I), Unnamed (Fe silicide II) and UM2000-60-Si:Fe.

Originally reported as fersilicite (published without approval) from Poltava series, Zachativsk station, Donets (Donetsk) region, Donets'k Oblast' (Donetsk Oblast'), Ukraine. The first extra-terrestrial confirmation is from the Khatyrka meteorite (Ma et al., 2016).

The name "fersilicide" sometimes found in the literature also refers to naquite.
