A former Mn mine located in the SE¼ sec. 3, T2S, R16E, MDM, 6.7 km (4.2 miles) SE of Groveland and 6.2 km (3.9 miles) WSW of Smith Station, and 6.7 km (4.2 miles) SE of Groveland, along Big Jackass Creek, on a located claim - private lease. Discovered in 1940. Owned by George McGirk and Ed Evans (1974). MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.

The ore body strikes N15 to 55W and dips 75E to vertical. Manganese ore occurs in a series of stumpy lenses of metachert, cut by quartz veins and enclosed in phyllite or sericite schist of the Calaveras series. The ore bodies appear to be separate lenses. The strike varies from N15 to 55W and the dip is 75E to vertical. The ore consists of manganese oxides derived partly from spessartine and partly from pink rhodonite. The garnet produces crumbly brownish-black ore, and rhodonite formed fairly high garde black oxide ore of nodular and botryoidal psilomelane and pyrolusite. Rhodnite
crystals are up to 1 inch (2.5 cm) in length. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges) and/or Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).

Workings include unspecified surface and underground openings.
