A former placer Au occurrence/mine located in the NEĀ¼NEĀ¼ sec. 30, T12N, R7E, MDM, 4.7 km (2.9 miles) SSW of Virginiatown, E of Clover Valley Creek. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. Said to be at an elevation of 900 feet, which does not conform to that on the topo map.
Mineralization is hosted in an inter-volcanic channel thought to follow NW side of Rocky Ridge (Boulder Ridge). The gravel is well-washed, consisting of andesite, quartz, and greenstone pebbles. The thickness ranges up to 12 feet and it is directly covered by compact tuffaceous breccia. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground oopenings comprised of an approximate 1,000 foot long incline.
Workings on this channel were found to be poor. Rich spots of $5 to $9 (period values) a ton were struck on the rim.
