The Transminas dikes stand out as two major giant dike swarms: (1) The Azimuth 125° swarm is a series of magnetic anomalies (1100 km-long) stretching from the southern region of Minas Gerais State to the western part of Goiás State in the central-western region of Brazil, following the Alto Paranaíba Lineament; (2) The Azimuth 170° extends from southeastern Minas Gerais State to central-southern Bahia State (800 km-long). The Transminas dikes derive their name from their extensive crosscutting of the state of Minas Gerais in southeastern Brazil, as evidenced by magnetometric survey. 40Ar/39Ar ages of some of these dikes in central Minas Gerais are Cretaceous. The dikes intrude Precambrian basement rocks belonging to the Mantiqueira and Tocantins provinces, as well as the São Francisco Craton.
