Eclogites occur in an amphibolite body near Sv.Ilja, north-west of the village Obidim. Eclogites occur as dm- to m-sized lenses and blocks in the amphibolites. Kyanite-eclogite has been identified among mostly retrogressed eclogites exposed in a roadcut. The listed minerals are exclusivly from the kyanite-eclogite.

Coordinates are approximate based on a map presented by Janak et al. (2011)

Detailed Mineral List:

โ“˜ Albite
Formula: Na(AlSi3O8)
โ“˜ Almandine
Formula: Fe2+3Al2(SiO4)3
Habit: Subhedral grains
Colour: reddish
Description: Garnet is the most common mineral in the kyanite-eclogite. It forms subhedral crystals up so several mm in size. The garnet core is rich in inclusions (see list of associated minerals) whereas the rim is mostly free of inclusions. Rare polyphase aggregates of staurolite, kyanite and amphibole are found in fractures penetrating the in some garnets. The fractures are connected with the matrix. The garnets are surrounded by amphibole + plagioclase kelyphite. The composition of the garnet shows increase of Mg and decrease of Fe and Mn from the core to the rim at nearly constant Ca content. A reverse pattern can be observed in the outermost part of garnet.Fe is dominant in all analyses.
โ“˜ 'Amphibole Supergroup'
Formula: AB2C5((Si,Al,Ti)8O22)(OH,F,Cl,O)2
Description: Amphibole occurs both as euhedral crystals included in garnet and in the matrix. The matrix amphiboles occurss in different mode: Near garnet porphyroblasts, amphiboles are found as kelyphitic rims, as lath-shaped crystals, or symplectitic intergrowths with clinopyroxene and plagioclase. Further away from the garnets, amphiboles occurs as dark-green to brown-green poikiloblastic grains. The amphibole composition is variable. The amphibole compositions ranges from magnesio-hornblende towards more Al-rich compositions near the pargasite/tschermakite/sadanagaite join. The most Al-rich compositions are found as inclusions in garnets.
โ“˜ Anorthite
Formula: Ca(Al2Si2O8)
โ“˜ 'Biotite'
Formula: K(Fe2+/Mg)2(Al/Fe3+/Mg/Ti)([Si/Al/Fe]2Si2O10)(OH/F)2
Description: Biotite and plagioclase form symplectitic intergrowths after phengite.
โ“˜ Coesite
Formula: SiO2
Description: Polycrystalline aggregates of quartz included in garnet are commonly interpreted as pseudomorphs after coesite. This interpretation is supported by thermobarometric modelling showing peak pressure conditions within the stability field of coesite.
โ“˜ Corundum
Formula: Al2O3
Description: Corundum + plagioclase form fine-grained symplectites after kyanite porphyroblasts. Corundum + plagioclase symplectites are rarer than spinel + plagioclase symplectites after kyanite
โ“˜ Diopside
Formula: CaMgSi2O6
Description: Diopside+ plagioclase commonly forms symplectitic intergrowths after matrix omphacite.
โ“˜ 'Garnet Group'
Formula: X3Z2(SiO4)3
Description: The reported garnet group mineral corresponds to almandine for all analysed samples.
โ“˜ Hercynite
Formula: Fe2+Al2O4
Description: All 3 spinel analyses provided by Janek et al. (2011) has Fe>Mg and is therefore hercynite.
โ“˜ Kyanite
Formula: Al2(SiO4)O
Habit: lath shaped
Colour: white bluish
Description: Kyanite forms tiny, randomly oriented inclusions in garnet (Fig. 5d). It is also abundant in the matrix as up to .5mm lath-shaped porphyroblasts with inclusions of omphacite and zoisite. Omphacite is partly replaced by diopside, plagioclase and amphibole, and partly rimmed by plagioclase intergrown with spinel(more common)or corundum.
โ“˜ Magnesio-hornblende
Formula: ◻Ca2(Mg4Al)(Si7Al)O22(OH)2
Description: Magnesio-hornblende is the dominant matrix amphibole and forms relatively large, pleochroic, dark-green to brown-green poikiloblastic grains. amphibole inclusions near fractures in garnets also corresponds to magnesio-hornblende.
โ“˜ Muscovite
Formula: KAl2(AlSi3O10)(OH)2
โ“˜ Muscovite var. Phengite
Formula: KAl1.5(Mg,Fe)0.5(Al0.5Si3.5O10)(OH)2
Description: Phengite occurs as inclusions in the garnet. In the matrix, phengite is replaced by symplctitic intergrowths of biotite and plagioclase.
โ“˜ Omphacite
Formula: (NaaCabFe2+cMgd)(AleFe3+fFe2+gMgh)Si2O6
Description: Omphacite occurs mostly as inclusions in garnet and kyanite. In the matrix, most omphacite has broken down to symplectitic intergrowths of diopside and plagioclase.
โ“˜ Pargasite
Formula: NaCa2(Mg4Al)(Si6Al2)O22(OH)2
Description: The composition of amphibole inclusions in garnet are near the pargasite-tschermakite-sadanagaite join.
โ“˜ 'Plagioclase'
Formula: (Na,Ca)[(Si,Al)AlSi2]O8
Description: Plagioclase is a common retrograde product in the kyanite-eclogite. It is part of symplectites after omphacite, and kelyphites around garnet together with diopside and amphibole. It also form symplectites with spinel and corundum around kyanite.
โ“˜ Quartz
Formula: SiO2
Description: Quartz occurs as inclusions in garnets. Some of these form polycrystalline aggregates which can be diagnostic but not unique to quartz pseudomorphs after coesite.
โ“˜ Rutile
Formula: TiO2
Description: Rutile occurs as a minor accessory mineral in teh kyanite-eclogite. Rutile is part of the high pressure assemblage.
โ“˜ Sadanagaite
Formula: {Na}{Ca2}{Mg3Al2}(Si5Al3O22)(OH)2
Description: The composition of amphibole inclusions in garnet are near the pargasite-tschermakite-sadanagaite join.
โ“˜ Spinel
Formula: MgAl2O4
Description: Spinel, corundum and anorthite-rich plagioclase occurs as a retrograde replacement of kyanite and zoisite.
โ“˜ Staurolite
Formula: Fe2+2Al9Si4O23(OH)
Description: Staurolite occurs in some fractures in garnet associated with kyanite and amphibole
โ“˜ Tschermakite
Formula: ◻(Ca2)(Mg3Al2)(Al2Si6O22)(OH)2
Description: The composition of amphibole inclusions in garnet are near the pargasite-tschermakite-sadanagaite join.
โ“˜ Zoisite
Formula: (CaCa)(AlAlAl)O[Si2O7][SiO4](OH)
Description: Zoisite occurs mostly as inclusions in the core of garnet and seldom in the kyanite. Matrix zoisite is partly replaced by plagioclase, spinel and corundum.
