A lensoid kyanite eclogite body (200 x 40 m) is embedded in a garnetโ€“phengite orthogneiss. The main body of the eclogite is undeformed, but at the margins, the eclogite is completely retrogressed into a foliated and lineated amphibolite. In the main eclogite body, shear zones of post-eclogitic deformation consists of garnet porphyroclasts in a fine-grained hornblende-chlorite-epidote-biotite matrix.

Detailed Mineral List:

โ“˜ Albite
Formula: Na(AlSi3O8)
Description: Albite has been identified as minute inclusions in garnet cores and has been used as evidence that garnets started to grow before the Pโ€“T conditions reached eclogite facies conditions.
โ“˜ Almandine
Formula: Fe2+3Al2(SiO4)3
Habit: Porphyroblasts
Description: All analytical data of garnet group minerals in the kyanite-eclogite ( see https://www.mindat.org/locentryedit.php?min=1778747 ) corresponds with almandine
โ“˜ 'Amphibole Supergroup'
Formula: AB2C5((Si,Al,Ti)8O22)(OH,F,Cl,O)2
Description: Amphiboles occur both as prograde and retrograde minerals. It occurs as a prograde mineral in the eclogite matrix and as inclusions in garnets. Amphibole+plagioclase form retrograde symplectites after omphacite, and kelyphitic amphibole replaces garnets. Mposkos et al. (2012) describe a matrix amphibole with actinolite core overgrown by Na-rich tremolite ( corresponding better to winchite in the 2012 amphibole nomenclature) and then rimmed by omphacite + quartz, suggesting a prograde metamorphic path with successive pressure increase. Several different amphibole species has been identified in these rocks.
โ“˜ 'Biotite'
Formula: K(Fe2+/Mg)2(Al/Fe3+/Mg/Ti)([Si/Al/Fe]2Si2O10)(OH/F)2
Description: Biotite is found as a retrograde alteration producton the rim of phengite flakes.
โ“˜ Clinozoisite
Formula: (CaCa)(AlAlAl)O[Si2O7][SiO4](OH)
Description: Clinozoisite occurs as inclusions in garnets and as a retrogression product in the matrix.
โ“˜ 'Garnet Group'
Formula: X3Z2(SiO4)3
Description: Garnet occurs as porphyroblasts in the kyanite-eclogite. The garnet shows compositional growth zoning with increasing MgO and CaO and decreasing FeO and MnO from the core to the rim.
โ“˜ Kyanite
Formula: Al2(SiO4)O
Description: Kyanite occurs as up to 100ยตm long priems in the kyanite-eclogite matrix. The kyanite is in textural equilibrium with matrix omphacite. Kyanite also occurs as up to 15ยตm prisms inclusions in garnet.
โ“˜ Magnesio-hornblende
Formula: ◻Ca2(Mg4Al)(Si7Al)O22(OH)2
Habit: symplectite
Description: A typical amphibole occurring with plagioclase in a retrograde symplectite after omphacite, corresponds with magnesio-hornblende.
โ“˜ Muscovite
Formula: KAl2(AlSi3O10)(OH)2
โ“˜ Muscovite var. Phengite
Formula: KAl1.5(Mg,Fe)0.5(Al0.5Si3.5O10)(OH)2
Description: Phengite is a common phase with a flake size of 10โ€“50 ยตm. At the rims, it is commonly replaced by biotite.
โ“˜ Omphacite
Formula: (NaaCabFe2+cMgd)(AleFe3+fFe2+gMgh)Si2O6
Description: Fine grained omphacite form the matrix of the kyanite-eclogite. It breaks down to symplectitic aggregates of amphibole and plagioclase. Omphacite is also found as inclusions in garnet.
โ“˜ Paragonite
Formula: NaAl2(AlSi3O10)(OH)2
Description: Paragonite occurs as inclusions in the cores of the garnets, indicating that garnet started to grow before the eclogite stage
โ“˜ 'Plagioclase'
Formula: (Na,Ca)[(Si,Al)AlSi2]O8
Description: Plagioclase and amphibole symplectites replaces matrix omphacite. The plagioclase is oligoclase/andesine with An content ranging from 26 to 36%.
โ“˜ Preiswerkite
Formula: NaMg2Al(Al2Si2O10)(OH)2
Description: Preiswerkite, staurolite and phengite was identified in a single composite grain inclusion in a garnet. These minerals are probably decomposition products of a former K-bearing paragonite+chloritoid composite inclusion that reacted during decompression.
โ“˜ Quartz
Formula: SiO2
Description: Quartz is identified as inclusions in garnet.
โ“˜ Rutile
Formula: TiO2
Description: Rutile occurs as inclusions in garnets
โ“˜ Staurolite
Formula: Fe2+2Al9Si4O23(OH)
Description: Staurolite, preiswerkite and phengite was identified in a single composite grain inclusion in a garnet. These minerals are probably decomposition products of a former K-bearing paragonite+chloritoid composite inclusion that reacted during decompression.
โ“˜ Taramite
Formula: Na(CaNa)(Mg3Al2)(Al2Si6O22)(OH)2
Description: An analysis of a typical retrograde kelyphitic amphibole replacement after garnet corresponds to a taramite composition.
โ“˜ Winchite
Formula: ◻{CaNa}{Mg4Al}(Si8O22)(OH)2
Description: Mposkos et al. (2011) describe Na-rich tremolite/actinolite as the dominant amphibole in the kyanite-eclogite. It occurs as a prograde mineral formed before omphacite, as inclusions in garnet and, most commonly, as replacement of omphacite. The composition of this amphibole is intermediate between tremolite and winchite. Mposkos et al. (2011) named the amphiboles based on the Leake (1997) nomenclature report, in which the name is tremolite. Using the amphibole nomenclature report of Hawthorne et al. (2012), the composition is closest to winchite. Winchite has also been identified from inclusions in garnet.
โ“˜ Zoisite
Formula: (CaCa)(AlAlAl)O[Si2O7][SiO4](OH)
Description: The kyanite-eclogite contains 2-3 modal% zoisite, presumable formed at near peak conditions.
