Ancient underground limestone quarry. The name "Grotta dei Cordari" (literally "ropemakers' cave") is due to the fact that the cavity, thanks to its humidity, was used by artisans to twist yarn fibres into strands and then the strands into larger ropes. This activity continued from the 17th century to the 1970s.
