Miniera La Crocetta (miniera Eurit), Isola d'Elba, Provincia di Livorno, Toscana, Italia

An open-pit mine, exploited by Eurit S.r.l. since the early 1970s and nowadays authorized until 2030, for kaolin and eurite [a finely textured rock consisting of small crystals of potash feldspar (sanidine) immersed in a microcrystalline matrix consisting prevalently of quartz, potash feldspar, plagioclase and secondarily muscovite mica]. The deposit exhibits a diffused degree of hydrothermal alteration that has led to the formation of quartz veins and widespread kaolinisation, and, in some outcrops a modest carbonatic type alteration.

Minor interest for collectable minerals, but sometimes eucrite could show some beautiful dendritic manganese oxides, black on the white rock. The same stuff from the San Rocco mining site (closed in 1999) in Marciana municipality is better known.
