Commodities (Major) โ€“ Lead, Zinc
Development Status: Past Producer
Host Rock Unit: Lake Valley Limestone
Host Rock: Limestone

The El Oro and La Plata Group consist of the El Oro claims Nos. 1 to 6 and La Plata claims Nos. 1 to 6. The claims are located in Socorro County near the southern end of the Lemitar Mountains and along the first ridge cut by the Canoncito del Puertecito del Lemitar, also known as Corkscrew Canyon. Workings reported in the 1940โ€™s consisted of an inaccessible 150 ft. vertical shaft, a 62 ft. vertical shaft with about 200 ft. of drifts and crosscuts on the 50 ft. level, and an adit with about 300 ft. of drifts and crosscuts including a 50 ft. winze. Today, one of the shafts and associated tailings piles can be found along the arroyo that traverses Corkscrew Canyon. Minerals than can be found include calcite (some fluorescent red under SW-UV); some chalcopyrite, galena, and malachite; and rare baryte.

Note: These piles can only be reached using a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle and during dry conditions.
Alteration: Silicified Limestone Forms Prominent Outcrops In A North Trending Zone Ranging Form 30 Ft. To 40 Ft. Wide.

Commodity: Analytical data form nmbmmr general data file.

Deposit: Deposits occur near the contact of precambrian rocksshear zones. 12 unpatented claims.

Rock formation(s): Lake Valley

Ore(s): Rising Mineralized Solutions Localized At Contacts And Small Faults And Shear Zones.
