A former W mine located in the sec. 12, T5S, R28E, MDM, 0.8 km (2,600 feet) SSE of Mount Baldwin (coordinates of record) (on the S flank of the mountain), at 11,500 feet of altitude, on National Forest wildernss land (John Muir Wilderness). Produced in 1942 - 1944. The last work was carried out in 1954. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.

NOTE: The coordinates presented in the MRDS database placed this mine in the next section E of its location. The coordinates provided in this file are based on the coordinates for deadon the mine symbol specifically labeled as the Scheelore Mine on the topo map.

Mineralization is hosted in marble/skarn. The ore bodies have a steep dip. The ore bodies are separated by talus and glacial till that covers the contact between granodiorite and marble for 900 feet. The northern ore body (No. 3) is exposed for a length of 230 feet, may contain pyrite, pyrrhotite and garnet at depth. The average width is 10 feet with a content of an estimated 1% WO3. The south ore bodies, No. 2, is 125 feet long, and 3 feet wide. Ore body No. 1 has two shoots. One shoot is 150 feet long and 5 feet wide, the other is 100 feet long and 4 feet wide. Local rocks include Carboniferous marine rocks, unit 7 (Bishop).

Workings include surface openings comprised of surface pits and trenches.

Production data are found in: Lemmon, D.M.

The No. 3 ore body yielded 1,140 pounds of W. Talus material at the No. 3 is 0.25 to 0.50% WO3. Most of the scheelite was produced from this talus. Little Au was present. The N side of the ridge is another tactite body that contained 0.25% WO3, and was not worked as of 1944 (?). The No. 2 contained 1% WO3, and the No. 1, with 2 shoots, had one shoot at 2% WO3, and 1% WO3 in the other. Some ore is high-grade. 5 tons of sorted ore contained 11.33% WO3.

In 1954, several truckloads of tactite was shipped to the Pine Creek mill of the Union Carbide Nuclear Co.
