Eucrite, monomict
Fell, 24 Nov 1910; 213 g

After detonations, a trail of dust, and a fireball, 2 pieces of a stone were recovered. Lakangaon's primary constituents are pyroxenes (both Ca-poor and Ca-rich varieties) and variable plagioclase (mostly bytownite). At least one Ca-phosphate (merrillite) has also been reported. Lakangaon appears to be more Fe-O rich than most Eucrites, perhaps because it crystalized later than most Eucrites in our collections.

As a small Eucrite Lakangaon's has not received as much attention as other eucrites. However, Lakangaon's 81Kr-Kr cosmic ray exposure age (~25 million years) is similar to that of several eucrite falls, suggesting that Lakangaon is likely to be a normal Eucrite. That, in turn, would be consistent with an original formation on the asteroid 4 Vesta, the apparent parent body of most (but not all) HED meteorites (Howardites, Eucrites, and Diogenites).
