Mina Trion, San Antonio de la Huerta, Mun. de Soyopa, Sonora, Mexico

Ref.: Panczner (1987): 272. Called this the "Triunfo Mine" evidently confusing the Triunfo-San Antonio Mine in Baja California Sur with the Trion Mine at San Antonio de la Huerta in Sonora.

Small breccia pipe above a Porphyry Copper system. Mineralization is deeply oxidized and leached with abundant chalcanthite. Mine was headed into production in the 1970s when uranium was discovered in the form of metatorbernite and under then Mexican Law the Mexican nuclear institute "studied" the mine for 5 years before releasing it. Copper price had dropped so the mine was uneconomic and remains more or less as it was then. There have been repeated attempts to run an in-situ leach operation here but proximity to the Rio Yaqui has prevented it.
