Stratiform cinnabar deposit, hosted by Ordovician phyllites of the Vogtland-Saxony Paleozoic Unit, in the Saxothuringian Zone of the Bohemian Massif.

The ore consists of pure cinnabar. The main mining phase occurred from 1520 to 1540, followed by a second peak from 1560 to 1570, when Hg production was 6–15 tonnes per annum. At that time, the mine was listed among the largest Hg producers in Europe. The mine was finally abandoned in 1597, and several unsuccessful attempts to restore mining activity from the 17th to the 19th century were not very extensive.
