Originally discovered and mined in 1870, various attempts to mine and/or prospect this locality have been made until as recently as 1990, when mining produced 261gm of gold, 13 tonnes of lead concentrate, and 17kg of silver concentrate.

The mine operated sporadically through to 1889. Later brief mining periods were 1920-21, 1950, 1973 and some minor mining in 1990.
There were at least 5 shafts employed in the mine.

Many collectors label specimens from this locality as โ€˜Towittaโ€™, however, the name Towitta was not used until the nearby township of Towitta was proclaimed until 1876.

First attempts to mine here, concentrated on silver-Lead ore, until approximately 1888 when copper ores where found to be running parallel to the original lodes. After which all mining included copper ores.
