A lode and placer Au mining area roughly located along the North Fork Salmon River from Sawyers Bar to Snowden, including the area S of the east-flowing North Fork Salmon River (Eddy Gulch-Whites Gulch-Trooks Flat) and E of the north-flowing North Fork Salmon River, including the area between the North and South Forks of Russian Creek (based on data included in the individual locality files, MRDS database).

NOTE: The MRDS database contains data designating locations as lying within the Liberty District that are distributed widely across the map from W of the South Fork Salmon River to NE of the Russian Creek area, near Etna Mountain. These parameters would make this district over 30 miles long.

The core area of the district is that which is described in the first paragraph, above. Only localities falling within that area are designated as lying within the Liberty District in this database, until or unless more definitive descriptive data for the district are uncovered.
