A former feldspar-Be-Li-mica occurrence/mine, located 3.7 km (2.3 miles) E of Walpole, on private land. Last worked ca. 1925 (map location approximate).
Mineralization is a pegmatite deposit, Local rocks include rocks of the Littleton Formation, undivided.
According to Page & Larrabee (1962): The Chickering feldspar mine is 2.3 miles N. 83Β° E. of Walpole village, in the town of Walpole, Cheshire County. The mine was last worked for potassic feldspar in about 1925 by the Whitehall Co., Inc. The irregular open cut is 80 feet long and as much as 70 feet wide. The highest point on the rim of the cut is about 40 feet above the floor. The cut is now used to store water for fire protection, and the water ranges from 5 to 20 feet in depth depending on the rainfall. A prospect pit 20 feet long, 10 feet wide, and as much as 15 feet deep is 50 feet south-southeast of the main cut.
On 15 July 1927, Arthur H. Chickering Jr. signed a mineral rights lease with the Whitehall Company on 85 acres of land near Walpole, New Hampshire (Cheshire County Registry of Deeds, Book 434 Pages 19-21). This lease was renewed on 1 June 1931 (Book 448 Page 558), and a quitclaim signed 14 December 1944 returning the property to Arthur H. Chickering Jr. (Book 512 Page 383). See also Page and Larrabee (1962).
