Kate Beckinsale raised concern among her social media followers after deleting her Instagram posts following a cryptic message.
The actress initially erased her photo archive on Sunday, leaving behind a plain black image that read, “bye.” Shortly after disabling comments on the upload, she posted an image of a rainbow to her Instagram Stories with the message, “Congratulations. You won. I give up.”
Both uploads have since been deleted, and her account now shows zero posts. She did, however, leave a link in her profile bio pointing to a BBC article covering the 2020 suicide of British TV presenter Caroline Flack.
The Physical Impact of Grief
This isn’t the first time Beckinsale has wiped her social media clean in response to public scrutiny. In August, she deleted all of her Instagram posts after facing persistent online criticism regarding her physical appearance following the deaths of her stepfather, director Roy Battersby, and her mother, Judy Loe.
Addressing critics at the time, she clarified that grief-induced appetite loss and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) — which the Cleveland Clinic defines as a rare immunological condition where overactive immune cells trigger repeated allergic-type episodes across the body — contributed to her sudden weight loss.
“You take a break from Instagram for several months following the death of your mother, delete all of your posts, and explain in some considerable detail about what you may have lost weight, including the fact that weight loss is one of the very first physical signs of bereavement … I think people might be broken,” Beckinsale wrote in an Aug. 8 post, per Entertainment Weekly.
In December 2025, Beckinsale posted an emotional Instagram video where she discussed how severe emotional loss was affecting her day-to-day life and appetite.
“2025 was a really, really hard year. It was also the last year that my incredible mum was on this planet. So I feel really torn about letting go of it as well,” she said, per People. “I watched my 31-year-old father die of a huge heart attack, and then I watched my stepfather die, and I watched my mother degenerate and die,” she continued. “Such an incredible amount of suffering, and what I will say, it doesn’t make you feel very hungry.”
Struggling With Non-Military PTSD
Earlier this month, Beckinsale brought attention to mental health challenges by speaking openly about her experience with non-military post-traumatic stress disorder. Unlike military PTSD, non-military PTSD develops after surviving severe personal trauma, sudden loss, or prolonged emotional shock in everyday life. It keeps the body in a continuous “fight-or-flight” state.
“I think what people will find incredibly hard to understand about non-military PTSD … is that those people have seen or experienced levels of horror, terror, violence that they don’t just dream about incessantly, so there’s no rest,” Beckinsale wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post. “They see it when they blink. Every time they close their eyes for a second and those people aren’t recognized as heroes.”
