storage / devStorage mount options and database / devDatabase connection options were typed as [key: string]: any, even though both unstorage and db0 expose maps of their builtin options (BuiltinDriverOptions / ConnectorOptions).

This wires them up, so options are inferred from the driver / connector name:

storage: {
  data: { driver: "fs", base: "./data" },        // FSStorageOptions
  cache: { driver: "lru-cache", max: 1000 },     // LRUDriverOptions
  custom: { driver: "./drivers/custom", a: 1 },  // custom driver, free-form
},
database: {
  default: { connector: "sqlite", options: { name: "db" } }, // node-sqlite options
},

Notes

  • Database side is strict: connector must be a db0 connector name (matching resolveDatabaseConnections, which already throws on unknown ones) and its options are type-checked.
  • Storage side gains completions and inline docs for builtin driver options, but wrong option values are still accepted: since Nitro allows any module id as a driver, the union keeps a CustomStorageMount branch with an index signature that a mismatching literal falls through to. That also makes the change fully backwards-compatible β€” no existing config can start failing.
  • Also moved the StorageMounts JSDoc block, which was sitting on CustomDriverName, onto the interface it documents.

Test

Added test/unit/config-types.test-d.ts, a compile-time test picked up by pnpm typecheck (not by vitest). It asserts valid configs pass and uses @ts-expect-error for an unknown connector and a wrong option type.

pnpm lint, pnpm typecheck and pnpm vitest run test/unit pass.

Infer `storage` driver options from `unstorage`'s `BuiltinDriverOptions`
and `database` connector options from `db0`'s `ConnectorOptions`.

Review Change Stack

πŸ“ Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The configuration types now infer options for builtin storage drivers and database connectors. New type tests cover valid configurations, custom storage drivers, unknown connectors, and invalid connector options.

Changes

Typed configurations

Layer / File(s) Summary
Configuration type contracts
src/types/config.ts
Adds inferred storage mount types and changes StorageMounts to use them. Converts DatabaseConnectionConfig to infer options from ConnectorOptions.
Configuration type validation
test/unit/config-types.test-d.ts
Adds compile-time checks for builtin and custom storage mounts, valid database configuration, unknown connectors, and invalid option types.

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟑 Moderate · up to 44d2a

The configuration typing change can still accept invalid values for builtin storage drivers, allowing misconfigured options to pass compile-time checks. Merge should wait until builtin and custom driver types are disambiguated or the compatibility tradeoff is explicitly accepted.

unstorage 2.0.0-alpha.9 BuiltinDriverName BuiltinDriverOptions type definitions

πŸ’‘ Result:

In Unstorage, BuiltinDriverName and BuiltinDriverOptions are exported type definitions that facilitate type-safe configuration of storage drivers [1][2]. These types are defined in the library's internal driver registry [1]. BuiltinDriverName This type represents the union of all string identifiers for the drivers natively supported by Unstorage (e.g., 'fs', 'redis', 'mongodb', 'cloudflare-kv-binding') [1][3]. It is commonly used in configuration interfaces to restrict the allowed driver names to those that are officially supported [3][2]. BuiltinDriverOptions This is a mapped type that associates each driver name (from BuiltinDriverName) with its corresponding configuration interface [1][2]. For example, if a driver requires specific options like host, port, or access tokens, those are defined within this type [1]. This allows frameworks and users to leverage TypeScript autocompletion and type checking when defining storage mounts [4][2]. Usage Example When configuring storage in projects like Nitro or Astro, these types enable strongly-typed driver options [3][2]. For instance, if you define a storage mount, the options object will be validated based on the selected driver [2]: // Conceptual usage import type { BuiltinDriverName, BuiltinDriverOptions } from 'unstorage'; interface StorageMount { driver: T; options?: BuiltinDriverOptions[T]; } These types were introduced as an enhancement to improve developer experience by exposing the internal driver configuration schema [4][5]. Because Unstorage is a modular library, these types are automatically generated or maintained to reflect the available drivers and their specific option structures [1][6].

Prevent CustomStorageMount from overlapping BuiltinStorageMount.

"fs" is assignable to CustomDriverName, so { driver: "fs", base: 123 } matches CustomStorageMount through its [option: string]: any signature. This bypasses the BuiltinDriverOptions["fs"] check. Exclude BuiltinDriverName from custom drivers or use an explicit discriminator, and add a negative type test.
