Description

get_entity_dimensions only has player sizes in it, but set_pose, get_eye_height and vehicle dismount used it for every entity. So a villager that woke up ended up with a 1.8 tall hitbox instead of 1.95, and every mob had its eyes at 1.62.

I added Entity::get_dimensions(pose). Players still get their pose sizes, sleeping entities get the small sleeping box, and everything else gets its own type size. set_pose and dismount use it now, and get_eye_height reads the current size the same way get_eye_pos does. Tall mobs can suffocate again (an enderman takes damage in a 2 block tunnel), small mobs get the right swim height, llama spit comes out of the llama's mouth, the wither and witch aim at the right height, and anchored eyes works for mobs.

Baby piglins, zoglins and slimes set their own size, so they would lose it if they ever changed pose. None of them call set_pose right now.

Testing

Spawned a giant with /summon minecraft:giant ~5 ~ ~ {NoAI:1b} and ran /teleport @s ~ ~ ~ facing entity @e[type=minecraft:giant,limit=1,sort=nearest] eyes. On master you end up looking at its knees, with this change you look at its head.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Entity dimensions now reflect the entity type’s defaults for non-player entities, while player-specific dimensions remain available for sleeping, crouching, dying, fall-flying, swimming, and spin-attack poses.
    • Eye height and pose changes now use the entity’s dimensions. Passenger dismount-position checks and player pose-fit checks also use the relevant entity’s dimensions.

📝 Walkthrough

Entity::get_dimensions selects dimensions based on entity type and pose. Eye-height, pose-change, pose-fit, and passenger dismount checks now use entity-specific dimensions.

Custom-sized passengers may be placed where their actual bounds do not fit or have their size changed during dismount. This is a narrow case, so the PR remains mergeable with the dimension handling tracked for correction.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Preserve dynamic dimensions in get_dimensions.

add_passenger accepts any EntityBase, and remove_passenger_internal can select Crouching or Swimming before calling passenger_entity.set_pose(pose). For a Slime or baby Zoglin, set_pose then replaces the scaled or baby dimensions with type_dimensions. The stored bounding box, width, height, and eye height can remain incorrect.

🟡 Minor · Check dismount space against the passenger’s actual size. · mod.rs:3779

crates/pumpkin-core/src/entity/mod.rs:3779
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Check dismount space against the passenger’s actual size.

If a passenger has a custom size, get_dimensions(pose) returns its type dimensions for these non-player poses. The space check can then accept a position that does not fit the passenger’s stored bounding box. This affects this search and the fallback search at Line 3830. Use the passenger’s current dimensions when the candidate pose does not change its size.
