Setlists in lists of live performances articles
[edit]A few weeks back, I started a review of List of Coldplay live performances which was nominated by GustavoCza. Some of my points have already been resolved but I wanted to check in with others to get views about whether the lists of songs performed at particular shows need to be referenced. I tend towards thinking that they should be. It looks like similar lists have been accepted as FL's without setlsits, e.g. List of Regine Velasquez live performances, List of SB19 live performances. List of Taylor Swift live performances has some lists of performed songs and some unknowns which seems to me a suitable option. I'd really like to hear what others think about this. Thanks. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 23:54, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
- I won't be able to list them from memory now since it's been weeks, but I checked some of the citations at Taylor Swift and not all set lists displayed there are completely mentioned on the references either. Just something to consider. GustavoCza (talk • contribs) 00:06, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- Giants2008, PresN and Hey man im josh, apologies for the ping but do you have any advice on this point please? Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 12:19, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Coldplay live performances/archive3 for more on this, e.g.: "It's totally fine to cite episodes of radio shows without a link, just as it's fine to cite books without a link (WP:Offline sources is the guideline there, combined with WP:AGF that the editor isn't lying about the source)." Thanks PresN and well done GustavoCza. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 17:40, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
Hello... this article was promoted to Featured List in July 2025. At the time, I didn't have a lot of background information to compile a History section like I do on many of my other skating articles, but I recently came across some information and was able to fill out a history. I'm not asking for a formal review or anything, but if anyone wants to look at the prose and has any suggestions, that would be awesome! Bgsu98 (Talk) 22:12, 28 July 2026 (UTC)
Standards for outline articles
[edit]Hi there. I have two past FLs and I have recently been working on Outline of British Rail. I am finding it difficult to know at what point it is FLC standard because of the differences between outlines and other list articles. I have looked at other featured outlines such as Outline of lichens but these feel like they lack much prose – is this okay? I don't want to nominate the article if it's not ready (I'm aware I need to do alt text as well). (in solidarity), JacobTheRox(talk|contributions) 16:34, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- I'm honestly not sure why that needed to be an outline and don't see it as an FL. I'll admit I don't particularly like most outlines in general since they're often just the main article's main links with prose removed – they're basically glorified see also sections and only warranted for fairly broad concepts like countries or fields of study that have a very large number of articles in multiple levels of organization under them that wouldn't already be in the main article; they also sometimes benefit from explanation like Outline of basketball. The lichen outline has a lot of links to taxonomy and lists and subtopics that would not belong in the broad-topic main article, though I don't love it. British Rail is already well organized with plenty of {main article} links that this page replicates. Here you have a fairly narrow topic and there's a lot of duplication of links or somewhat irrelevant sections that are duplicative of other pages. The History section repeatedly links to sections of British Rail and History of rail transport in Great Britain 1948–1994 and includes some links that are in the Structure section. The list of Transport Ministers is redundant to Secretary of State for Transport. The Board chaimen duplicates British Railways Board#Chairmen. The list of accidents duplicates content at List of accidents on British Rail. The list of successors duplicates British Rail#Successor companies. There's also Template:British Rail. So how exactly does this help navigation for readers when the main article already has most of these links and is already well organized for people to find things? If you can't find something on the main article, it should be added to it. — Reywas92Talk 17:20, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
Bullet lists okay?
[edit]I'm getting ready to nominate List of recovering species for FL status. It would be my first FL nomination. I've looked at other FL lists, and the criteria, and my understanding is that bullet lists (each bullet is a small paragraph) are acceptable, correct? I'm asking because it seems like 100% of the current FL nominations contain tables, which makes me wonder if there is a "tables are mandatory" rule I'm unaware of. I figure it is better to get confirmation here in the Talk page ... rather than starting the nomination and then getting an unpleasant surprise :-) Thanks. Noleander (talk) 18:01, 8 September 2026 (UTC)
- There is nothing that says bullet lists aren't acceptable. I have definitely seen bullet lists pass through here, even if there aren't any up right now. Bgsu98 (Talk) 18:31, 8 September 2026 (UTC)
- Alright, thanks. Noleander (talk) 18:36, 8 September 2026 (UTC)
- Definitely just fine. We actually have a few like that at FLC right now; both of the "Timeline of" nominations and the Mikołaj Kruszewski bibliography are bulleted lists. --PresN 19:03, 8 September 2026 (UTC)
Question
[edit]I am trying to promote my list (Timeline of the Islamic State (2026)), do you think the bullet points are long enough? Militant.Insurgency (talk) 21:29, 29 September 2026 (UTC)
- A general list of complaints or improvements that I should add would be useful too... Militant.Insurgency (talk) 21:36, 29 September 2026 (UTC)
- The bullet point lengths seem reasonable; the primary issue with any "timeline of" list, however, is justifying what the inclusion criteria is. The primary timeline FLs are hurricane seasons (based on government hurricane monitoring reports) and more recently US presidential timelines (relying on particular academic texts to decide what "matters" or not). You might have difficulties with the inclusion criteria if they're just "any IS-related story that appeared in western media this year", and if it's not that, then the list should be clear on what the inclusion criteria is. --PresN 21:49, 29 September 2026 (UTC)
- So I should add a criteria section, got it! Militant.Insurgency (talk) 21:54, 29 September 2026 (UTC)
- Do you have an example of what a good criteria section looks like? It would be helpful to go off from that. Militant.Insurgency (talk) 21:56, 29 September 2026 (UTC)
- @PresN What about now? Do you think I have improved this article? Militant.Insurgency (talk) 02:02, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
- Made an edit (see edit summary for details). It's better, but it's still not clear why, for example, any brief mention of IS by a US politician is not included, but an off-hand nonsense accusation by Trump that Ilhan Omar was connected to a subgroup is included. Basically, what does "a direct connection to IS" mean? --PresN 19:48, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
- I feel like this includes most of it: Included events include attacks, military operations, arrests, legal actions, propaganda activity, and organizational developments involving IS or IS-aligned groups such as the ADF, Jaysh al-Islam (Army of Islam) in the Gaza Strip, the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in the Philippines, Lakurawa in Nigeria, and other groups across the world.
- Note: I have removed the Ilhan Omar claims because that is complete nonsense (also per WP:NTRUMP) and feel free to make any changes. Militant.Insurgency (talk) 22:13, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
