Recreated article

[edit]

Hello, someone has recreated the article Azerbaijani-Georgian War found here perhaps a sockpuppet? Kajmer05 (talk) 21:12, 28 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I’ve taken a close look now; both of these articles are identical they just copy-pasted. Kajmer05 (talk) 21:13, 28 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that, and opening the SPI, I've deleted and protected it. ASUKITE 01:03, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

2026–27 Bayer 04 Leverkusen season

[edit]

Hi Asukite, the AFD for the 2026–27 Bayer 04 Leverkusen season has ended - I created the article without realizing there was a draft already in the works. Do you think we should re add the histmerge you added? Thanks, RossEvans19 (talk) 11:50, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@RossEvans19 Thanks! I have been unsure over whether a histmerge would be appropriate, but since another editor did merge content in from the draft, and the page is being kept now, I feel comfortable re-implementing the merge; I think having the attribution in history is preferable to an attribution tag. ASUKITE 02:08, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for doing that! All the best, RossEvans19 (talk) 21:19, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

CSD request – Draft:United for Romania

[edit]

Hi Asukite, could you please take a look at the Draft:United for Romania deletion request when you have a chance? It's a move-blocking redirect, tagged with {{db-move}}. Thank you. AriuCH (talk) 21:15, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@AriuCH I'm usually hesitant to allow re-drafticication, but in this case it was technically a second article. I'm thinking I may be able to merge the histories too to avoid having two copies, but I'm on the fence there. Will reach out to the other editor when I get a sec. Asukite, thanks for taking a look. AriuCH (talk) 14:25, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Administrators' newsletter – October 2026

[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2026).

Administrator changes

Oversight changes

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, the good article criteria have been amended to add accessibility requirements.
  • Following an RfC, late signatures added to administrator recall petitions after 720 hours from opening are reverted or struck and do not count towards the threshold, even if the petition has not yet been formally closed.
  • The post-May 2026 administrator elections RfCs concluded with consensus for election monitors to curate blatantly inappropriate questions after posting, and to remove or merge true duplicates, clearly marking merged questions. Calls for candidates will include advisory guidance that users with less than one year’s experience or 5,000 edits generally lack a realistic chance of success.

Technical news

  • Interface administrators no longer need to specify the ResourceLoader option in the definitions for gadgets on MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition as gadgets are always loaded through ResourceLoader. (T298199)
  • The list=abusefilters API module now supports formatversion=2 and includes breaking changes to its responses. In particular, the actions property is now a JSON array rather than a string, regardless of the format version. Maintainers of user scripts and other code using this module should check compatibility and update their code as needed. (T435828)

Arbitration

Obituaries

  • Doug Weller passed away on 30 September 2026. Doug Weller began editing Wikipedia in 2006 and became an administrator in 2008, making nearly 275,000 edits over two decades. He served on the Arbitration Committee from 2015 through 2018 and was also a longtime CheckUser and Oversighter.

October 2026 Administrator Elections – Discussion Phase

[edit]

The discussion phase of the October 2026 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • October 8–12: Discussion phase (we are here)
  • October 13–19: SecurePoll voting phase
  • Scrutineering phase

We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2026/Discussion phase.

On 13 Oct, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for.

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Deaths in 2026

[edit]

Please undo your page move immediately. Per long-standing custom, Deaths in 2026 contains the current month, and its contents are moved to Deaths in (month) 2026 in the beginning of the next month. Marbe166 (talk) 17:18, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Marbe166 done, thanks. I had no idea that was a norm. I did fix several redirects, a couple of which I may need to alter (although several of them were pointed at the wrong targets) ASUKITE 17:30, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, this never should have been moved without a full discussion. It's linked from the Main Page and regularly falls in the Top 10 monthly page view report. There's a very specific page move schedule and referencing system in place in order to keep the whole thing running smoothly. Thank you for undoing the move so quickly.-- Ponyobons mots 17:33, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I appreciate being informed, I was trying to focus on some easier tasks today as I am a bit distracted and failed to look into that. I've undone my redirect changes as well, save for the July/March redirects which were pointed at Deaths in 2026 instead of their respective months. ASUKITE 17:36, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for moving this back, sorry if i came across rather stern in contesting the move. i was taken by surprise, mostly. tomasz. 18:18, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oh, it's okay. I fully deserve being trouted for that. If I'd just checked the logs I would never have moved it. (my usual first check is a history search for "moved page" as move logs are less helpful for that, but the full page logs there clearly show there has been activity, and of course a page that has 22 thousand revisions won't surface much activity in the last 500 alone). May need their TPA revoked, as they keep on violating WP:NPA after being blocked, despite being warned not to do that earlier by me. Diffs Special:Diff/prev/1379384971, Special:Diff/prev/1379384959, Special:Diff/prev/1379384946, etc. (For my own reference, WP:TPA states that editing of the user's talk page should be disabled only in cases of continued abuse of their user talk page, which I think is a category the user's edits fall under. Do you agree?) In solidarity, Gommeh (talk 🎮 sign) 17:56, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I think that's appropriate and have done so. Thanks, I'm away from my PC at the moment and will edit the tag when I get a chance. ASUKITE 19:18, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

October 2026 Administrator Elections – Voting Phase

[edit]

The voting phase of the October 2026 administrator elections has started and will continue until 19 October 2026 at 23:59 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2026/Voting phase.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • October 13–19: SecurePoll voting phase (we are here)
  • Scrutineering phase

In the voting phase, the candidate subpages close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote has a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for a few days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a non-recall candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Recall candidates must achieve 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.
