Various thoughts

[edit]

My research process of going through every article in the news tab of Google after searching 儒烏風亭らでん probably leaves a decent amount to be desired, especially since I was making fairly quick assessments of whether a source had anything and was reliable. There were a decent number of sources I found that I didn't end up using, since they didn't have a byline and I didn't have the brainpower to make the determination of whether that was fine, or I just didn't see anything usable. . I arranged the discography how I think it ought to be arranged, but I'm probably gonna wait a few days to see if anyone else is going to fill it out before I do so, to get the article ready for DYK nomination. In my experience, when I have done it, it takes a decent amount of time and effort and there have been a decent number of mistakes and missing areas. 1brianm7 (talk) 17:43, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

I did the discography, mostly, because I didn't have anything better to do. I expect whatever mistakes are there to be corrected soon. 1brianm7 (talk) 21:03, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

  • ... that one journalist believed Juufuutei Raden's dancing mushroom dance heralded a new age for anime and the internet?
  • Source: Source: きのこダンス動画のバズは、切り抜きという二次創作を超え、一次創作側のタレントや事務所も無視できない流れとなってきている。新たなアニメ・ネット時代の到来を感じるほど、大きな出来事だ。trans. by Google translate: "The viral phenomenon surrounding the "Mushroom Dance" videos has transcended the realm of derivative works—specifically video clips—to become a trend that even the original creators, including the talent and their agencies, can no longer afford to ignore. It is an event of such magnitude that it truly signals the dawn of a new era for anime and the internet."
    • ALT1: ... that VTuber Juufuutei Raden's first social media post declared she had 6,725 yen in her bank account? trans. by Google translate: "When it comes to the debut social media posts of VTubers launching from major agencies, they often feature polished greetings or carefully crafted gags; as such, they garner significant attention as a key indicator of the character's intended direction. Yet, for her own inaugural post, Juufuutei Raden chose to reveal a rather—dare one say—paltry and grimly realistic figure: a remaining balance of just 6,725 yen."
    • ALT2: ... that the curator of one museum attributed an increase in visitors to an advertisement of VTuber Juufuutei Raden? trans. by Google translate: "At the Sake Museum, curator Akari Miyamaru (28) has prepared a "Den-Doushi Notebook"—placed right next to the fan-sponsored advertisement—where visitors can leave collective messages. To date, approximately 80 people have contributed entries, with comments such as, "Thank you for broadening my knowledge and interests," and "Meeting Raden-chan inspired me to pursue a career as a museum curator." Miyamaru remarked, "Thanks to this advertisement, visitors are now coming from all across the country—and we’ve seen an increase in young male visitors, too. I hope this serves as an opportunity to help a wider audience discover the true depth and richness of Japanese sake.""

Possible split

[edit]

Pinging @Underbar dk because I had this literal shower thought and I would like input on whether its a good idea, and I know they know of each page. Right now, through my maniacal editing machinations, the articles for Raden, Todoroki Hajime, and Otonose Kanade all replicate ReGLOSS's discography. This means, whenever they make a new song or album, somebody (probably one of the two of us) is going to have to make the exact same edit on three pages. I was wondering if it would be smart to create a list like ReGLOSS discography, move all of the content there, and then make each page look as follows: 1brianm7 (talk) 05:00, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

==Discography==
===Studio albums===
====As ReGLOSS====
{{main article|ReGLOSS discography}}

  • ReGLOSS (2024)
  • Snapshot (2025)

===Singles===
====As ReGLOSS====
{{main article|ReGLOSS discography#Singles}}
====As lead artist====
Maitake Dance... etc... etc...
Thoughts? It is also my understanding that it would be pretty easy to get this to FL status and (eventually) on the main page. See The_Linda_Lindas_discography, an FL. Such a discography definitely meets WP:NLIST (and ReGLOSS probably meets WP:NBAND, but there's such a dearth of content). And it'll definitely save editor time with (I presume) the third album on the way. 1brianm7 (talk) 05:00, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I would not even object to an article about ReGLOSS tbh. Despite having three members of the group, there really is no coverage on Wikipedia about what ReGLOSS is all about. I think that's something we should cover (provided that sigcov exist, of course). I also feel the same way about songs of the Hololive Idol Project and how that requires continual updates on the individual talents' pages . _dk (talk) 05:09, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I've created ReGLOSS discography. The one paragraph summary is pretty much the most I could get out of coverage of the group, so I just redirected ReGLOSS to it. We can split it out if new coverage comes out. For the Hololive Idol Project stuff, it may be smart to beef up the Selected discography at Hololive Production, turning it into a table with stuff like "Song (Participating talents), Year, Chart performance, Album, Notes", or something like that, and then at the "As collaborative artist" subsections do a hatnote like "For songs x recorded as part of Hololive Idol Project, see Hololive Production#Selected discography. Could expand the selected discography to include generation songs, but I'm not so sure on that. 1brianm7 (talk) 16:10, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's worthwhile to note that the musical producer Ohtora is involved in all of ReGLOSS's discography, and he has a working relationship with the group that Cover/Hololive/ex-DEV_IS has not made explicit in print. (Other than inviting the guy backstage to meet the girls.) Having said that, here are some sources that may help (maybe even towards a future article about ReGLOSS):
_dk (talk) 23:04, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I had been tinkering with figuring out some way to say who Ohtora is, but its hard to find a good way to phrase it with the sources we have. Unfortunately the former source is sponsored and the latter is a press release, though they'll be good for fleshing out articles if more sources come by. While I have your time, how would you romanize もつ煮込み, the holder of this Twitter account and director of Worth It and Iconic. I've checked literally dozen of credit lists to try and find a romanization, but have failed. 1brianm7 (talk) 23:31, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict) Got edit conflicted while you were adding the latter three sources. 1brianm7 (talk) 23:34, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
もつ煮込み should be "Motsu Nikomi" (with or without space). _dk (talk) 00:01, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose, spelling, grammar, and understandability): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, lists, and tables):
    MoS is followed in all relevant cases. no substantial prose or grammar issues.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable, as shown by a source spot-check.
    a (reference section): b (inline citations to reliable sources): c (OR): d (copyvio and plagiarism):
    In-line cites are all there and ref section is well-formatted. Chart cites confirm the songs that charted, but not the ones that didn't. Highest percentage copyvio is 3.8, and no problems there. A few other source cite problems - the source cite doesn't seem to support that she had a particular interest in educational outreach and public relations at museums, it seems to say that she didn't have an interest in alcohol, and i don't see any mention of an instructor recommending her transfer, just off of my spot check - as such i'll check more after updates.
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
    Focused. doesn't seem to mention some of her latest partnerships, though.
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
    A lot of her backstory elements are stated in wikivoice when they shouldn't be, coming from an interview - should be more "have stated", etc.
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
    No serious signs of edit warring and no stability problems.
  6. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
    a (images are tagged and non-free content have non-free use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions and alt text):
    One fair use image that's tagged correctly, used appropriately, with good captions and alt text.
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

Hi Jishara, hope you are well. Thanks for the review. Going down the list: 1brianm7 (talk) 04:51, 4 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

  • Chart cites confirm the songs that charted, but not the ones that didn't. - done
  • the source cite doesn't seem to support that she had a particular interest in educational outreach and public relations at museums... and i don't see any mention of an instructor recommending her transfer, just off of my spot check - Its from the Bijutsu Techo interview. "専門学校の先生に大学進学を勧められ" is "My vocational school teacher recommended that I go to university." and "じつは学芸員課程を学ぶなかでとくに惹かれたのが広報と教育普及で、その分野を仕事にしたかったんです。" is "Actually, while studying for the museum curator program, I was particularly drawn to public relations and educational outreach, and I wanted to make those fields my career."
  • doesn't seem to mention some of her latest partnerships - its always possible something slipped my mind. could you be more specific? The only thing I can think of is that the National Gallery is doing some merch collabs with her right now, but that didn't seem all that important since I already mentioned the collab. I also have a local news source that doesn't specify if "Okayama Castle is very busy because Juufuutei Raden is collabing with it for the 60th anniversary of its rebuilding" or "Okayama Castle is very busy for the 60th anniversary of its rebuilding and Juufuutei Raden is collabing with it"
  • A lot of her backstory elements are stated in wikivoice when they shouldn't be, coming from an interview - should be more "have stated", etc. - yeah, this is something I struggled with a bit. I can't find the policy right now, but I know that it is widely accepted that we can use SPS to talk about the subject to enhance an article, when meeting WP:ABOUTSELF. E.g., I don't have to say "Juufuutei Raden says she was born in Japan", and remove "birth_place = Japan" from the infobox, because that's not exactly something doubtful. ABOUTSELF says "Self-published and questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves, usually in articles about themselves or their activities, without the self-published source requirement that they are established experts in the field, so long as: The material is neither unduly self-serving nor an exceptional claim; It does not involve claims about third parties; It does not involve claims about events not directly related to the source; There is no reasonable doubt as to its authenticity; and The article is not based primarily on such sources." Going down the list, I don't think it is unduly self-serving, it doesn't make any claims about third parties, they are all directly about her, and they are all definitely by her. So, that only leaves "the article is not primary based on such sources.". I don't think it is, and the detail that is there is just a more expedient way of saying what sources already say. E.g., the first mention of art is a contemporary American photographer and the second is an ancient Japanese art from her interview, and sources go "She likes Western art and classic Japanese art." Other sources mention she knows art history or is a photographer, etc. I could be convinced to remove some of the qualifiers (e.g., just say she learned of Hololive from Rosenthal, or that she became interested in rakugo during the pandemic)

Placeholder to make everything chronological 1brianm7 (talk) 16:09, 4 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

thanks! 1 now looks better, 2 makes more sense (the paywall really got in my way there). As for 4, I agree that it's almost entirely fine, but there are a few chunks that I'd say are self-serving enough that I'd personally probably do attribution? In particular that she has a curatorial certification, though that's something that you might just be able to find an outlet stating itself too. I thought there was another one but looking back at it now I think the rest is fine.
In terms of 3, I'm actually thinking of the puppetry, the sake, and her collab with a whiskey brand, among others - I wouldn't have been concerned about it except the article currently sorta implies that her collabs are exclusively museums by not mentioning anything else in terms of collabs. Jishara (please ping upon response) (talk) 14:09, 4 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
the paywall really got in my way there - same here, I even ended up making a request at WP:RX, and was only able to bypass it once I find a retweet that mentioned it was free for the first 24 hours it was posted (and so free to be crawled by IA). In particular that she has a curatorial certification Real Sound and KAI-YOU both support licensed curator in their own voice, and The Yomiuri Shimbun also says curator. Real Sound is currently cited right after curator to describe what the role entitles, saying "じつは彼女は学芸員の資格を取得しており、博物館などでの実習やボランティアで作品解説をつとめたことがあると語っている。学芸員の資格は、博物館の専門的な業務を担当する職員として働くために必須となる国家資格であり、資料収集から保管、調査研究、展示普及までをも任される、全国的にみても貴重な人材だ。" trans. "She revealed that she actually holds a curator's license and has experience internships and volunteer work at museums, providing explanations of artworks. A curator's license is a national qualification required to work as a staff member in charge of specialized tasks at a museum. Those who hold this license are entrusted with everything from collecting and preserving materials to research, exhibitions, and public outreach, making them valuable personnel nationwide."
On the other promotions, I don't think there are a lot of sources there, once you scan out press releases. I could do: "In June 2025, Juufuutei and Todoroki collaborated with the insect repellent brand Earth Pharmaceutical [ja].[1]", which is a sentence I copy-pasted from Todoroki Hajime (I had a corporate collabs section there since I had to find some place to place the bacon potato pie version of "Konkokonkonkonkon". I think there is a decent source about the whiskey somewhere, I vaguely recall spending 30 minutes looking like three months ago. I believe the puppet is only discussed in Taiwanese sources that I am not yet sufficiently familiar with to vouch for their reliability. (just putting them here so I don't have to look again: ). collabs like the sake are sort of run-of-the-mill, if that makes sense. A ton of Holomem have one. got to run, will try and comment more, thoughts not finished @Jishara: 1brianm7 (talk) 16:09, 4 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
fair point it's it's kinda run of the mill, but from someone reading the article without the context it looks like she exclusively does collabs with museums which wouldn't really seem to be the case. looking forward to seeing the updates! Jishara (please ping upon response) (talk) 18:48, 4 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Jishara Ok, I've added a section with other collaborations. 1brianm7 (talk) 02:42, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Looks good - could you also mention the alcohol collabs tho? seems like they're significant enough, there's multiple of them and from the article her persona/self has alcohol as a main part. Jishara (please ping upon response) (talk) 03:08, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Jishara I was able to find a decent enough source for one of the sake collabs, I'm not sure the other ones have good enough sources to add. 1brianm7 (talk) 03:19, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Could you also add the Taiwan News PR release for the whiskey brand? source seems solid (definitely promotional, but that's fine because its existence proves its content) and it shows the trend better to have two than to have one. After that, this should be good. Jishara (please ping upon response) (talk) 03:28, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Jishara: I think there is a decent source about the whiskey somewhere, I vaguely recall spending 30 minutes looking like three months ago. - I retraced my steps and rediscovered what it was! At Kavalan Distillery, there was already a reference to Raden in the references section before I started working on this, and I recall thinking that was odd and wondering whether it was a decent source. I've added a few words based on it. 1brianm7 (talk) 03:53, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Looks good. Approved! Jishara (please ping upon response) (talk) 03:55, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
