About

ČT2 history, coverage, features

CT2 is a free-to-air television channel available in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The channel originally launched back in 1970 as CST2, before it was renamed CTV in 1990. It only lasted three years under this name before it was rebranded as CT2 in 1993.

The channel was launched to provide households in the two countries with a second free-to-air television offering, following the launch of CT1 in 1953.

The main purpose of CT2 is to provide viewers with entertainment programming, including Czech-dubbed films and television series. The channel has also occasionally been used to show live sport.

In terms of live football, CT2 has previously provided live coverage of the FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championships. Domestic football action is also included in news bulletins on the channel.

Fans can either watch CT2 on linear TV or stream it through the Ceskatelevize website and iVysílání České televize app, which can be downloaded for free on iOS and Android devices, including smartphones and tablets.
