Leptite

A rock subtype
This page is currently not sponsored. Click here to sponsor this page.
A near obsolete term for a fine-grained banded, gneissose to granulose or hornfelsic, feldspathic metamorphic rock of varied origin, mainly composed of feldspar and quartz with subordinate mafic minerals. They have been variably interpreted as metamorphosed volcanics, pyroclastics, or sediments, sometimes probably highly metasomatised (Watanabe, 1987).

Ojakangas and Marmo (1995) considered the classic Proterozoic Leptite and Halleflinta (Tuff and Tuffite) Sequences of Southern Finland to be tectonised quartzofeldspathic volcanic rocks.
