About Alunite GroupHide

Formula:
A0.5-1 B3[SO4]2(OH)6
Trigonal hydrous sulfates, where:

A = K+, Na+, NH4+, Ag+, Pb2+, Tl+, Ca2+, H3O+, Ba2+;
B = Fe3+, Al3+, also Cu2+ in combination with Al3+ specifically in osarizawaite;

In general, to maintain overall charge balance, A+ cations are present up to 1 apfu, whereas A2+ cations are present up to 0.5 apfu; osarizawaite is an exception, where charge balance for one A-site Pb2+ is maintained by the combination of (Al2Cu2+) in the B-site.
A subgroup of the Alunite Supergroup.
The most common members are jarosite and alunite sensu stricto.

See also the Plumbogummite Group and Beudantite Group.

Solid links show inferred chemical differences; dashed violet links show same-formula crystallographic differences. Hydration states are not treated as relationship changes. These relationships do not imply any real-world substitution reactions between these species.
