| Formation: | Secondary | |
| Comments: | A late forming, fine-grained, very dark green to black micaceous mineral forming tiny globules or coating other minerals in vesicles in basalt. An SEM-EDS analysis conducted in 2017 concluded the mineral is an Fe-Mg-Ca aluminosilicate. The complete absence of K rules out stilpnomelane, biotite, celadonite. The Ca is too low for pumpellyite or julgoldite. A mindat.org mineral search by chemistry found ferrosaponite as a good match, as are its physical properties and geoenvironment of formation. However, XRD is needed for confirmation. | |
