- Yogibo signs two-year title sponsorship
DAZN, the digital sports media specialist, has become the domestic broadcast partner of the Women Empowerment (WE) League, signing an eight-season deal with the new elite tier of Japanese women’s soccer.
The contract kicks in for the start of the inaugural season in September 2021, with DAZN airing all 110 matches across 22 fixture rounds from the 11-team, home and away format league.
DAZN has also confirmed it will be live streaming select WE League matches on its YouTube and social channels for free.
The deal was announced at the same time as the league's two-year title sponsorship deal with the Yogibo lifestyle brand. The competition, which will now be known as the Yogibo WE League and is the first professional women’s soccer league in Japan, is aiming to become the most valuable property of its type in the world.
For DAZN, the deal expands its women’s sports offering, which includes the recent acquisition of the global broadcasting rights for the Uefa Women's Champions League. The media company says that the Yogibo WE League broadcast partnership is indication of its ‘accelerating’ effort to contribute to the exposure and status of women's sports.
DAZN Japan’s executive vice president, Martyn Jones, said: “This [deal] follows our innovative investment in the global broadcasting rights for the Uefa Women's Champions League, and with the addition of these rights, demonstrates our unwavering commitment to grow football and participation at all levels in Japan.
“DAZN's coverage, as the official broadcaster of Yogibo WE League, will provide a platform for the women's game, inspire new fans and promote the skill and brilliance of the players. We're incredibly excited and cannot wait to get started.”
