It was a tough call for me to take a drop year but I would suggest everyone give themselves a chance so that you will never regret in life that you did not even try. Trying something and failing or lagging from some marks is better than not trying this. The one who tried or I should be the one who has given themselves a chance is better or I should say happier than the one who did not even try.
The First Attempt: A Reality Check
In my first attempt before the boards, I had just studied the board content and I thought I could make up to 70 to 80%ile I just took the exam, I was really happy because I had done more than 45 questions but when I got the result I understand that JEE is not just that easy that one can easily clear. JEE requires preparation and consistency and it is a pledge required for that.
Taking a Drop: A Bold Decision
I always wanted to be an engineer since the 8th class I have heard about Aakash Institute and Fitjee and Allen. And I was fascinated by this engineering stuff. After I got 26%ile my dream started vanishing but I did not lose hope and decided to give myself a chance means that I decided to take a drop year. I went to Hauzkhas in Delhi and got admission to offline coaching Sri Chaitanya to study for JEE Mains.
The Struggles and Challenges
The journey wasn’t smooth. Adjusting to intense coaching schedules, managing self-doubt, and performing under expectations was exhausting. After putting in the work, my first attempt after coaching in 2024 was a miserable 51 percentile, which was not a great score and all my hard work was going to waste.
There were times I doubted my decision to drop. It was hard to watch my friends moving on with their college lives while I was stuck doing problems and going over concepts. But then I reminded myself that I was not doing this for just a single outcome.
The Turning Point
Instead of allowing failure to defeat me, I decided to use that as motivation to work even harder. I realized where I was falling short, adjusted my study plans, and concentrated on regular revision and mock tests. Gradually, my confidence grew, and with it the confidence to solve problems.
Everything fell into place in my last JEE attempt. I got an 88.9 and this time, my efforts and determination paid off. This made way for my admission to JSSATE, Noida (IT branch), which furthered my passion for technology.
Lessons Learned

In hindsight, resetting a year was one of the hardest but best decisions I’ve ever made. It is considered a long journey fostering resilience, self-discipline, and growth. For me, JEE Mains was not just an examination but a test of perseverance and patience. Finally, I got 88.9 percentile.
