Then construct the most realistic metropolis you can imagine. Your city comes alive with the hustle and bustle of construction crews, the snarl of traffic, and the activity of your Sims. Move your personalized Sims into your city and watch as they go about their daily lives. Build mansions on mountainsides, raise skyscrapers downtown, and build transportation networks to form a massive region of SimCities that share and compete for resources. With every decision you make, your city and your Sims will respond for better or worse. In SimCity 4, your city pulses with the life you give it.

A Little Late But Lots Of Fun
Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2013I don't have a DVD drive on my computer, so I looked for SimCity 4 on the Internet (I have SimCity3000, but haven't played it for several years). I eventually came across SimCity 4 Deluxe and purchased it through Amazon.com. What a Lot of fun! My husband and I are developing separate cities and get a lot of laughs out of it. He especially likes "driving" around his city and, of course, plays havoc with Disasters. I'm trying to build a "sensible" city (one I don't have to eliminate!!!). This is a great all-around game and I wish I'd have come across it sooner!

Sim City 4 - Fancy Graphics But Not as Fun as the Original
Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2003When I saw the ads for the newest Sim City (Sim City 4), I have to admit being pretty amazed by the graphics. Sadly, however, the graphics are about all that I found impressive about this newest version.
You have several regions to select from, and they can be altered via "God Mode". Once the real city building starts, though the game drags. I seemed to only be able to build on a few zones without exhausting my supply of funds. I spent more time watching a dwindling supply of money as opposed to building a city. (Once over a century went by and my city remained essentially the same).
The first version of the Original Sim City 1 that I purchased several years ago was enhanced with video clips from the various advisors and news teams. It was fun, challenging, yet quite doable. Less fancy game graphics were more than compensated for by a engrossing and fascinating game scenario.
No video segments (or even audio voice overs) in this new version. Gone are the pre-made scenarios. Also gone is the fun. It looks like the new region setup is designed for online multiplayer options but I won't be playing.
I think I rate this one about 2 stars, since there is some fun in the original setup using "God Mode" and in destroying the city once I get bored (less than an hour). I think rather than wasting my time playing this game, I'll go ahead and de-install it and go back to Sim City 1.

A Lot of Game
Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2013An awesome game that will keep you building for hours. I can imagine this being the perfect Sim City for families, because your cities can interact if they neighbor one another. I heard there are a lot of other games that interact with this one, and I never explored that potential. I got a lot out of the little I put into this game.

Great game, if you can get past the bugs...
Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2003First off, I have to say the game it's self is great. All of the new features are great, the graphics are supurb, and the realism is unbelievable!
However, one possibly fatal drawback to this game is that it's already notorious for bugs. This is easily one of the least stable games I've ever played. And check out any Sim City 4 forum, I'm definitely not alone.
Even with a fast system (mine is a 2.4Ghz P4, 1024MB DDR ram, 128mb ATI video card), and even after doing all of the defrags and disk clean ups that the game recomends, the game crashes, hangs, and displays glitches constantly. Turning down shadows, cars, etc can help, but what's the fun in that??
While the game and it's graphics and features are great, this is definitely another prime example of EA releasing a game before it's ready, and your game play will suffer because of it. Maybe they'll release a patch some day...

Great price for a classic
Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2012With Sim City "5" (or whatever it will be called) being released in the next year or so, I got the itch. I needed to play some Sim City. At $10, the price was too good to pass up. And the game lives up to expectations. If you're a fan of Sim City, pick up a copy. The game has always been of greater appeal to me than any of the Zynga made "-ville" games. Being a slightly older game, it means the graphics are a bit on the older side (4 stars), but it also means that this will run on just about any computer you have laying around. It's well worth it.

This Game will not run under Windows 7 in all ...
Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2017This Game will not run under Windows 7 in all its current and prior (older) versions. I spent lots of time getting it to work, but no: the game is too old for modern computers.

A snap reaction
Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2003Well I just got the game the other day. I was a casual fan of sim city and sim city 2000, and own sim city 3000 unlimited. I was really excited about this game when I read about it. Perhaps that is why I feel a little disapointed in my purchase.
Take into account I havent spent a hell of a lot of time with the game yet, but I will rewrite this review once I have a better and more exact apraisal of it's merits and faults. This is a first reaction.
For starters, the game feels slow. I have a brand new 2.4 Ghz machine with 512MB of Ram and a Geforce 4. So it's not my machine... for real. Not that the game grinds to a hault, it just FEELS sluggish in response time. Anytime you move around your city it doesnt feel 100% fluid. This is a minor to moderate complaint, but I'd really like to see the game have a much smoother engine.
This time around the interface is brand new. They tried to work in the interface from The Sims. Well... I hate to say this, but I hate it. Atleast at the moment. It is more confusing to me than the one used in previous versions, and too flashy. I much prefered the interface of sim city 3k. Also there are only a small handfull of disasters which really disapointed me. The ones that are there are moderately well done, and now you can direct them (which is cool). Although it's fun to steer a meteor into a loathed neighborhood of your city, I wish there was a wider scope here. A larger variety of disasters would be much apreciated. I'd like to see varying intensity disasters too, so the difference between an F1 and an F5 tornado could be illustrated in the game... but no.
The paradigm of the game is also changed a lot... for the better AND for the worse. Many aspects have improved, but many have changed in ways that will leave traditional fans frustrated, disapointed, or confused. You can now create a whoole region of cities all interlinked, which is a greta improvement, but I dont see scenarios present. I also hate the startup screen. No menu really... just right to a region... it's a bit perplexing. And perhaps the BIGGEST COMPLAINT I have is that I dont beleve you start in 1900 anymore! As far as I can tell you ALWAYS start your cities in the present day! What a huge loss! I alsways loved starting a city in the beginning of the century to watch it progress over the years as new technologies change the world, and to watch the events occur in the game. Im not 100% sure about this, but if I knew for a fact it was true I would definately be upset!
On the up side there are a lot more buldings and seems like a lot more depth in the game as far as complexity. There are now local budgets for schools and more emphasis on the people of your city. You can even throw your own sims into the city and they'll report back to you. The day/night cycle, is a nice touch, but can be distracting. The graphics are a BIG imporvoement, yet at times fall short of what would be expected. Sound is generally very good, though at points it's obvious they used and built on existing sim city sound effects. Economics in the game is much more detailsed, but the graph features are a little less helpful than we have come to expect in the series up till now.
All in all.... I must admit a heavy sense of disapointment. I very well may come to love the game in some ways, but for now I am still stuck with the feeling of disapointment with the shortomings and unwelcome changes. Don't get me wrong it's still a good game, you'll just have to try it out for yourself and decide whether or not you like the changes and can live with it's few hiccups.
