Steam Controller (2015)

Steam Controller (2015)

Controller immediately turns itself off when Steam is running.
A couple of days ago my Steam Controller started acting strangely. Whenever I turn it on there's a high chance it will just turn itself right back off again, but it only does this while Steam is running.

I've tried changing batteries, and it makes no difference. If I can get the controller to stay on, I can game for long periods, so batteries/power doesn't seem to be the issue. It even plays the shutdown tune, which it doesn't, in my experience, when losing power from a dead battery.

I tried switching from the Steam Beta to the main release, and that did not change things. Either way if Steam is running my controller will almost always turn itself off immediately after I turn it on.

If I can get the controller to stay on, and getting it to do that seems to be random if Steam is running, then it seems to function fine.

Any ideas as to what might be wrong? Anyone else having the same problem?

Having the same issue, have u found a solution?
This remains a problem for me when using the USB dongle, under both Windows 10 and Linux. The controller works as a basic trackpad as long as Steam isn't running, but once Steam starts it shows a 'Controller Disconnected: Steam Controller' notification and the controller immediately powers off. It still works when wired though.
Oh lol. Same here today. Works wired and with bluetooth on my Arch Linux, but not with the Steam Dongle
Update on this: Someone suggested to me that updating to the BLE firmware will fix this. I finally got around to flashing the firmware on my controller, and it seems to have fixed things.

I don't think this should be necessary, and still hope that Valve will fix Steam, but it does seem to be a work-around.

Here is a link to how to install the BLE firmware:

This worked for me, thank you! I forgot I had reset the firmware to factory default because the update seemed to cause me other problems before, but it seems to work fine for me now. This fixed the issue under both Windows and Linux.
