Dear Wikimedians, I will be out of office between 21.02 - 26.02.24. Please direct any queries to Mohammed Abdulai (WMDE) for Wikidata-related queries, or drop me a message here and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Thank you, Danny Benjafield (WMDE) (talk) 14:17, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
That's great! Would you kindly email me at: danny.benjafield@wikimedia.de
Then I will be able to add your current email address to our Interview tool and ensue you receive the invitation email correctly. (Please don't tell me on-wiki to ensure it remains private)
I am from Albania and I have a request. I have seen that you are native to German language. I think you may also understand Palatine German dialect. If yes, can you create two pages for Albania and Tirana, the capital city of Albania, in Palatine German Wiki, with short content? I would thank you so much. If you aren't native to this dialect, ask a person you may know, via the Wikipedia private message.
Hello @GeriKola93, thanks for reaching out. As an employee of Wikimedia, I don't add content to the Wiki Projects. This is a Staff policy.
Here is the community forum of the Palatine German Wikipedia, click this link to write a message there (in English) explaining what you would like done and someone from the Community may be able to help you.
We will be presenting a poster of our activities from the last 12 months and we welcome and encourage you to drop-by, ask us questions and learn about our team, project and goals.
Hello everyone, a small change will soon be coming to the user-interface of your Wikimedia project.
The Wikidata itemsitelink currently found under the General section of the Tools sidebar menu will move into the In Other Projects section.
We would like the Wiki communities feedback so please let us know or ask questions on the Discussion page before we enable the change, which can take place October 4, circa 15:00 UTC+2. .
Dear Wikimedians, I will be out of office for much of October (October 09 - 23 (possibly longer). If you have any queries on the following topics, please contact the listed person, discussion page or email address:

When a Commons file has descriptions in more than three languages, only the English description is displayed, while the remaining languages can be seen by using the drop-down menu, which is located right below the picture. Problem is that this is not obvious, as the menu and the descriptions are far apart. For the casual user it is very easy to miss completely that more language descriptions are available, when only the English is displayed. So I recommend: bring the language select menu and description box closer together in some way. The drop down menu must preferably be right inside the description box, in the pale purple area at the left, or even included in media viewers of all languages. Here is one such example, and note the Ndebele is still shown as "nr": 116320 jerusalem pater noster church PikiWiki Israel, isiNdebele and siSwati pair.jpg. The general layout of the area immediately below commons files can be looked at, as it is not well-designed or user-orientated. Thanks in advance. JMK (talk) 18:26, 26 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello @JMK, thank you for your suggestion! I have transcribed your request to our project pages and this will get seen by a Product Manager and Engineering Manager for feasibility assessment.
Do you happen to know if there is an existing Phabricator ticket related to this issue?
I appreciate your reply! If "Phabricator ticket" means that the issue has been raised before, then I doubt it. Besides the latter, we are struggling on the Afrikaans wikipedia with some issues, and up to this point, did not know where to ask for help. It mostly concerns unavailable templates, or available templates that don't work. If you look at the cladograms on this page or this page for instance, you will notice that the black lines have disappeared, leaving us without the graphs. Some of these issues are simple, I think, but we did not have anyone to assist us. JMK (talk) 13:30, 29 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Currently, the names of of settlements entered into Wikidata are displayed incorrectly in Wikipedia and Wikisource. For example, a person was born in Leningrad in 1930. We enter the place of birth in Wikidata â Saint Petersburg. Through Wikidata, the place of birth is displayed as Saint Petersburg on the pages of the Wikipedia and Wikisource person pages. But this is incorrect, since from January 26, 1924, to September 6, 1991, the city had the official name Leningrad. Wlbw68 (talk) 12:56, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! I wonder, if you tried adding Property: P1810 "subject named as" with a value of "Leningrad" as a qualifier to the Saint-Petersburg entry in Wikidata, if that might fix things?
I would love to do this, but my knowledge on this topic is limited. In the proposed version, you need to put the dates and also add the name Petrograd. --Wlbw68 (talk) 21:49, 26 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia Deutschland is researching how to improve interoperability between Wikidata, Wikibase Cloud, and Wikibase Suite. If you've worked with data imports or staging, or even if you haven't, your input would be valuable. The survey takes 5 to 10 minutes and is anonymous. WikiProject Highlights: Project PCC EMCO Wikidata CoP added a subpage for listing Properties normally associated with Corporate bodies.
Development
Mobile statement editing: We are continuing with UX fixes. This is primarily visual polish and consistency as well as fixing bugs related to RTL display.
Wikibase REST API:
We are finishing the support for creating Lexemes and the statements on them.
We are continuing working on support for adding Forms to a Lexeme.
Wikidata integration in the other Wikimedia projects:
We are going to stop sending language link changes to the first few wikis. An initial deployment to group1 wikis is now planned for Monday, 05.10.2026. (Click group1 on this Toolforge page to see which Wikis are included.) This will help reduce noise in Watchlists and Recent changes and help reduce the size of the database table holding recent changes on these wikis.
Connecting a newly created Wiki to Wikidata is a manual task, we are automating that and optimising the SitesTable at the same time, making a 'single source of truth' that all wikis point to, rather than a table per Wiki that are all clones of each other.
We are experimenting with raising the entity usage limit on wikis. If this is feasible, we can reduce the amount of bundled changes. This would reduce the quantity of Wikidata-triggered Recent Changes rows being created.
